All humans experience heartache and pain from time to time. Often such pain is easily overcome, while other times it may take days or even months to feel ‘normal’ again. The pain never truly goes away. Pain and other traumatic experiences are a part of life that must be endured. There are some experiences, however, that cannot simply go away with time.
In other words, stress is an omnipresent part of peoples’ life. A very stressful event causes hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline to flow through the body. There is another type of stress termed acute stress that is so exciting and keeps people active and alert. On the other hand, chronic stress (long-term stress) causes detrimental effects.
Social cognition can be defined as “the conviction that constructs relative to cognitive representation and process are fundamental to understanding all human responses, regardless of whether those responses are social or nonsocial in nature” (p. 16). Social cognition is not really so much a theory as it is an approach to thinking about knowledge.
