The theory of mind refers to the ability of the human mental ability to give mental states both to the self and to other people. The realms of cognitive psychology ponder on the notion of exploration and recognition of the internal processes of the human mind. The word cognition connotes ‘knowing’ and psychologists stress the knowledge archetype with the inculcation of information exchange within the human mind (which the behaviorists generally call stimuli).
Violation of ethical boundaries occurs when a therapist crosses the line of integrity and decency to abuse his/her power, thus exploiting a client for his/her own benefit. Other practices considered unethical unless backed by solid reasons include self-disclosure, exchange of gifts, touch, length, and location of sessions, bartering and fees, and contact outside the office.
