The plot flowed smoothly, with the narrative voiced by Ian and those characters important to him. This allowed personalities, circumstances and conflicts to be exposed, and engaged and involved the reader on emotional and intellectual levels. The themes of guilt, faith, family life and love were explored, as Ian sought to repair the damage of the tragedy he believed himself responsible for, and in the process, grew to maturity and achieved peace with himself and his life.
