The author is himself unknown except for his adopted title Subcomandante and his adopted name Marcos. Little is known about the author except that he hails from an urban background and resides in the poor Chiapas region of Mexico that is inhabited largely by the ethnic Mayans.
The book that I have chosen to report on is After Tamerlane: The Global History of Empire Since 1405 by John Darwin. This is a nonfiction book in the history genre. The book was a very difficult read because there were so many references to people and places that were new to me.

Life was normal back in the early nineteenth century. By ‘normal’ we mean that life had not altered much between the years 1000 AD and 1800AD.
