The science fiction genre is very diverse. One of the true classics is surely the famous novella War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. It is hard to believe that it was written at the end of the nineteenth century, long before our modern world of computers, spaceships and technology ever existed. This book introduces a rather formal unnamed narrator who describes in detail an invasion of the earth from the planet Mars.
The plot is about a dysfunctional family supported by its eldest son, Augusto. However, Augusto is not the protagonist here but Alessandro, who is the family’s middle male sibling. The oldest family member is their blind mother, only known as Mama, then Giulia, the only sister who seems normal, then Alessandro, who is a sociopath and an epileptic, and lastly, Leone, who is retarded and also an epileptic.
