This internment was so unjust that the Japanese Americans who lived on the West Coast were interned while among those in Hawaii, who outnumbered the former by 40,000 Japanese Americans, only 1800 were interned. Though Reagan was a widely popular president during his presidency, he has since become an incredibly polarizing figure, with people on the left treating him as a joke, an old man who was completely out of his depth with the intricacies of the presidency, whose economic policies favored the wealthy at the expense of the middle class, and people on the right viewing him as something of a folk hero, a remarkable leader who provided moral, military and economic leadership when the country needed it most.
He has greatly contributed to the events in the Vietnam War, and ultimately determined the result: Vietnamese independence and liberation. The Vietnam War was among the most famous of the clashes of the Cold War, a war that according to some historians, that was among the most important wars of the 20th Century.
