The Baroque is a phase of artistic style that began around the 1600 in Rome and spread across Europe and other regions. It comprised of exaggerated movement and easily interpreted features to create tension and grandeur in sculpture, architecture and music. I would say the popularity of the Baroque style was influenced by the Catholic Churches.
