Extract of sample "The Teapot Dome Scandal"

The Teapot Dome scandal exposed the corruption that the governance of the time tolerated. The scandal indicated that the oil companies had a lot of influence on American politics. The administration perpetuated corrupt deals, and the setting of the Federal Oil Conservation Board promote intimate coordination between in oil production between the oil industry and the federal government (Killoran, Stuart, and Mark 176). The signing of the Five-Power Naval Limitation Treaty slowed the arms race and reduced the chances of future wars.

The treaty enabled the United States to scrap and halt the construction of twenty-six ships. The Sacco-Vanzetti trial indicated that the left wing politics supported the radical politics and communism. The trial showed that the society had advanced in the detection of the crimes using forensic methods. The left wing politics was unacceptable in the 1920s, and many Americans had developed the anti-immigrant and anti-communist hysteria. The Scopes Monkey Trial was an indication that the Americans preferred the modern values to the traditional ones (Killoran, Stuart, and Mark 193).

Modernism had infuriated the society to an extent of dismissing the evolution theories. The prohibition era attempted to restore morality in society. However, the move to restrict alcohol sale and use tended to create new types of crimes.
