The human figure was depicted in a naturalistic but ideal way, based on classical sculpture. Leonardo da Vinci used measurements from a work by Vitruvius to sketch a man in perfect proportions. The measurements were expressed as ratios of each other, e.g.: the length of a man’s leg is two times that of his foot, etc. This method was until then seen as perfection in God’s design.
The objects are not recognizable, which is typical of abstract art: they do not represent physical objects but emotions and impressions, sensory or otherwise. I prefer paintings of things I can recognize. From the dress and hairstyle, this portrait probably hangs in some old castle, or a house decorated in antique style. The mirror has fascinated artists since Classical times. Rembrandt places Lucretia in the foreground of the painting and sets her against a dark background. Lucretia then appears jumping out.
Miller introduced a depth of field previously unsuspected. His plays focus on the stories of everyday Americans struggling and often not quite reaching the quintessential American Dream. Sculpture parks and gardens have had an amazing impact on the art world in recent decades. It is only in the past couple of decades that sculpture parks and sculpture gardens have sprung up throughout the world as one of the fastest growing segments in the art museum world.
The conclusion from this study states that the basic representation of power, violence and gender authority are no doubt the basic material around which Shakespeare constructed his comedies and romances, ensuring dramatic tension and sustained interest but he also presented strong female characters in authoritative roles and as intellectual equals of their male counterparts.
In this work we hypothesize that drama imitates reality through representation rather than imitation. For proving this hypothesis we will analyze two plays “Oedipus Rex” by Sophocles and “Fences” by August Wilson. During the analysis we will look for evidences that can prove our original idea. We’ll overview the tragedies without retelling their plots and going into details.
