I write on behalf of all those readers who share the same opinion that the political cartoon of cartoonist Mike Keefe seemed to stir up a hornet’s nest due to some of the suggestions made in this visual editorial which was filled with a lot of political undertones. I disagree with the fact that references are no more necessary for an authentic piece of writing.
The human figure was depicted in a naturalistic but ideal way, based on classical sculpture. Leonardo da Vinci used measurements from a work by Vitruvius to sketch a man in perfect proportions. The measurements were expressed as ratios of each other, e.g.: the length of a man’s leg is two times that of his foot, etc. This method was until then seen as perfection in God’s design.
The battle greatest revelation is the randomness of death. The faces of the figures in the painting evoke the feeling of guilt at having survived, fear of the next fight, and weariness of the soul (Mitchell). Band of Brothers makes the statement that soldiers do not fight for principles, or objectives, they fight for each other.
The objective of the portrait could be to show the tranquillity or melancholy of a woman, either in her desired or dejected surroundings or could be in her supposed illusion. The closure of eyes, flowers in a sea-weed fashion, a fish or a squid at the top back right corner, makes one comprehend that the woman in the portrait is under the seawater.

The most salient observation in waxing is the ensuring of a contrasting texture (Richards 9). In this case, both the wax and the textile should undergo a replacement by metal during the casting process (Richards 12). As for Honore Daumier, he lived during a time in France when there was a lot of upheaval. In his lifetime, five key events of the government occurred and it was just part of the French Revolution coming to an end. There were many changes politically, economically, and socially in France during the time frame. This was a time when industrial workers became a much different class of people.
I do not see how the structures in the monument are supposed to make a reminder of the people that were killed. Everything inside looks the same, save the varying heights of each structure. There are no etchings or any form of identification on any of the structures. Perhaps the design was meant that way to convey a deeper meaning.
I can suppose that in the further perspective of the painting the same pillars are decorated with the same burden of the modern consumerism artifacts. The artist challenges the audience with his painting, because we may think about our future, past, and present and try to find out what are we living for?
