Wants and needs have many connotations and are used in different contexts. Nevertheless, a need, specifically a “human need”, generally refers to “something that a human being must have in order to live a recognizably human life” (Garrett, “Needs, Wants, Interests, Motives”); a want, or more accurately “the object of a want”, refers to “something that one desires to have, or whether or not one needs it or has interest in it in preceding sense” (Garrett, “Needs, Wants, Interests, Motives”).
