 Gone with the wind ‘Gone with the wind’ is known as the epic romantic film, in the history of America. This film is based on the famous fiction novel, by Margaret Mitchell. The novel itself received highest ratings, likewise the film. As per the novel the story of the film is set at the time of backdrop of American Civil War, and the reconstruction era. The narration of the story is based on the white Southerners. Undoubtedly, the film received good reviews on behalf of its story line and the actors associated with it. The film was also rewarded with ten Academy Awards. It stood out to be as the best and the most popular film in the year, 1939. The huge cast of the film was highly embraced by the audience. The people enjoyed each and everything related to the film, also including the depiction of African Americans in it. It became as one of the highest rating film in the history of America. ‘Scarlett O'Hara’ was the character which remained highly focused in the eyes of the audience. This role was immensely played by the well-known beautiful actress, ‘Vivien Leigh’. Scarlett is the strong leading character in the film. The whole story of the film revolved around the incredible life of Scarlett. On the basis of the character, Vivien Leigh stood out to be best suitable woman for the film. She tremendously put the most best of herself to portray the character of ‘Scarlett O'Hara’, and to make this film as successful as the novel. Her performance in the film is so extraordinary that it brings me no surprise that she has won the ‘Best Actress Award’ for this film. Vivian was successful to become the lifetime heroine of Margaret Mitchell's. I have read this novel more than five times, and while reading the novel I used to wonder who can perfectly portray the Scarlett O’Hara? Because the character of Scarlett is put as too strong, wild, bold, brave, confident, stubborn, somewhere proud, egoistic, shameless, intense in love matter, courageous, devoted, confusing, revenge taking, selfish, dignified, and determined towards goals. Vivian’s performance in the film has covered every inch details according to the demand of the role. The way she raised and out herself against every shot of the film, is truly applauding. I watched the film two times just to watch the legendary performance of Vivian Leigh. I really admired and adored the way she delivered her dialogues, either it were the expression of happiness, sadness, grief, aggressive, lust, bold, romantic, weeping, enthusiastic or fighting. Every dialogue thrown by Vivian Leigh perfectly matched the genre and demand of the scene. Scarlett’s character is quite twisting and molding throughout the film. Somewhere it’s one thing, and another in the next. As per the story, Scarlett’s life varied and endured certain distinctive phases rather than being constant. Likewise, Vivian’s acting in the film demanded the versatility of her inner performance, which she balanced very honestly. For an example, if I take into consideration all the scenes which showed the brave, courageous and confident side of Scarlett, when she manages to look after her family and do everything for their survival. All these scenes demanded a different level of attitude, and Vivian really surprised me with her such remarkable side of performance. Her acting in these scenes really engraved me into the film utterly, and some where I forgot that I was watching a fiction film. I just went into it so deep that I began to say myself, that go Scarlett go! Be brave, my prayers are with you. Suddenly, on releasing that I am just watching a movie, I laughed a little at myself that how intensely I am getting involved in it. I believe that, an actor becomes profoundly accomplish in its performance, when he/she becomes successful to drawn their audiences into the film though their performance. When an actor makes us laugh with them, cry with them, nervous with them, excited with them, thrilled with them, scared with them or romantic with them then their job is perfectly done. And there are very less number of such benchmarking actors, who makes their audience live the exact expressions of whatever the shot played by them is shown on the screen. Similarly, Vivian’s performance moved me more than one time. I lived certain moments with her live while watching the movie, due to her acting skills. The love scenes involved with Ashley’s character were done perfectly either. An intense chemistry is required between the actors who are to play the romantic scenes. Therefore, Vivian proved herself that is nothing she can’t act. It really looked and felt real, the crazy love of Scarlett for Ashley. When I talk about the strange chemistry between Scarlett and Rhett, it demanded some kind of a revengeful acting, hidden behind the walls of winning Ashley along with playing as the wife of Rhett simultaneously. Being a rich woman, a wife, a mother and yet seeking for Ashley, this versatile part of the movie played by Vivian is genius. The end scenes where Scarlett eventually realizes her true love for Rhett, apologizes and eagers for him to forgive her and stay with her, put me into tears. In one hand I felt so pity for Scarlett & well deserved of her on the other. Emotion & guilt feeling scenes are marvelously put by Vivian. The good thing I liked about Vivian Leigh’s performance is that, she performed every scene at the par, on an extent required level of acting, neither more/over acting nor the less. In my opinion, this trick of acting should be followed by every actor in the world of film mania. The word ‘Expression’ is like the heart of acting. If an actor fails to convey the right expressions, then he/she is not an actor. Vivian Leigh picked every expression close to its perfection.
