Running Head: Job Satisfaction and Morale through Effective Communication Job Satisfaction and Morale through Effective Communication [Institute’s Name] Job Satisfaction and Morale through Effective Communication The unexpected and unpredictable vicissitudes of an organization is prone to affect every single individual in a number of ways. Problem arises when employees that are supposed to provide the best of everything, try to see the world in their shoes and interpret the whole scenario in their own ways. This results in deprivation of morale in the office’s environment and job satisfaction among the employees. The ultimate cause of this dilemma is nothing but the lack of effective communication among the components of an organization. Throughout the paper, we will discuss that how effective communication helps raising morale and job satisfaction among the employees in a stepwise manner. Communication and Effective Communication: Communication is generally defined as the transmittance of a message or a subject from one individual to another individual. Communication is one of the most fundamental human nature and it establishes a connection between different groups or individuals (Fielding, 1997). It is not only the transmission of messages between people but also an ongoing process of making, defining and preserving bonds and acting out mutual values, shared acculturation, harmonized objectives, and ways to accomplish them (Nimmo, 2001). This phenomenon is vital to all panoramas of life, without it everything would fall apart (Fielding, 1997). The perfect communication is not achieved by the fact that how proficiently the communicator speaks or writes but how effectively the listener has received the message (Fatehi, 2007). This demonstrates the conception of effective communication. In business environment, effective communication occurs when receiver thoroughly understands and interprets the message and intention of the speaker completely and responds with the expected and rewarding feedback. Thus effective communication happens when transmission is sound and clear resulting in an in phase relation between speaker and listener. Why are an Employee Morale and Job Satisfaction Necessary? The employee morale and job satisfaction are the two key factors that are instrumental in forming incorporated and running office environ. These factors help in shaping up the thoughts and activities of an individual, as well as in determining the overall ambience of an office environment. They assist in bringing together the employees to accomplish a common organizational aim. Need for Effective Communication: Effective communication is basic to acquire organizational success at any point of the employee’s career ladder. It is needed to bridge the communication gap between employees to achieve better office morale and job satisfaction. Effective communication is desired to prompt employee motivation, promote cooperation, unite them to achieve organizational objective, encourage professionalism and develop an impulse to execute properly. (Austrin, 2006) The organization practicing effective communication is most likely to flourish ethically and morally, as well as economically. Consequences of Lack of Effective Communication: The outcome of poor communication is far greater than one’s imagination. It severely affects the coherence of an organization as a single unit. It heads to self-satisfaction instead of job satisfaction and careless attitude towards duties. Lack of effective communication also results in an increase in employee turnover and absenteeism, complexities for administration, dissatisfaction of organizational clients, misuse of vacant office time, and an increased air of stress in office environment. (Business Performance Limited, 2009) Due to this a slump in over all progress is observed in many organizations that affected the focus on organizational aims. Once lack of communication sets up in any organization or corporate sector, it continues to make that sector follow a downward trend until it destroys. How Effective Communication Improves Morale and Job Satisfaction: When an effective communication is practiced in any organization, it bears the fruit in innumerable way. Communicating effectively is a critical tool in organizational arsenal. The tendency to share one’s innovative ideas does the magic in any organization. Let us have a look at how does it work: i. Invoking Confidence among Employees: When an enthusiastic employee uses effective communication to share his ideas about the common goal of an organization, the supervisor accepts it whole-heartedly as he founds the ideas beneficial for everyone. This helps developing a feeling of confidence among employees that their opinion would be acknowledged, respected and honored. (Business Performance Limited, 2009) The employers start having faith in their people that always would come up with something sensible and rewarding. ii. Helping Employers Exercise Strong Leadership: This faith allows the employer to take better decisions keeping the nature and capabilities of their employees in consideration. Effective communication develops a feeling of understanding among them, so that they can take necessary initiatives to accomplish the desired goals and be the effective leaders in this cycle. (McConnell, 1993) iii. Setting up a Clear Vision for Organization: When the employers or the management of any organization comes to know their real power or potential and they have the support of their employees. They follow the best possible path to pursue their goal as a team. They know what they have to do, they know their abilities, and they have faith in each other, this all results in setting up a clear direction in their mind where they have to take the organization. iv. Employer Recognition and Employee Feedback: When an effective communication is practiced in any organization, the employers recognize the work of their employees and encourage them to do more good in future. An employee feels respected that his efforts did not go astray and he got appreciation he deserved. Similarly, when an issue is raised or employees are asked to put forward their opinion about any important matter, the employee takes part in the discussion and gives his innovative and creative ideas to ensure healthy communication and excellent work environment at work. This feedback is equally important; as the employers have an impression that employees would come up with the suggestions, best suited for that particular scenario. v. Keeping Focus on Customers: When the internal affairs of an organization are settled by dint of effective means of communication, the team can set their focus on the external affairs i.e. to the client and customers of the organization. This helps in achieving the mutual organizational aims and objectives efficiently and effectively. It also aids in maintaining the reputation of organization. vi. Developing Pleasant Workspace Environment and Having Pride in Organization: Effective communication is the key factor not only in the development of an organization but it also results in an increased productivity and efficient output of the organization by keeping the office environment morally sound and psychologically positive. (Jeffreys, 2009) The pleasant and soothing environment where there is no gap of communication helps in developing better understanding among the workers that establishes a feeling of contentment with job and pride in organization. In short, when employees in a particular workspace feel that are being managed properly and all their endeavors and efforts are recognized with gratitude, they experiences an improved Morale. In return, when employees have faith in management that their ventures are suitably rewarded they work more diligently resulting in an increased job satisfaction. When effective communication is practiced in an organization both the employers and the management enjoys benefits as an individual and as a team as well. Effective communication determines the success of any organization and improves job satisfaction and morale throughout the workspace. Conclusively, the paper has discussed some of the significant aspects of job satisfaction and morale with relation to effective communication. It is hoped that the paper will be beneficial for students, teachers, and professionals in better understanding of the topic. References Austrin, Erica Weintraub. (2006).
