 Behavioral self-control is one of the self-management competencies that help one to manage and control his\her own impulses and internal state. In order to keep one's own disruptive emotions in control, one must master behavioral self-control. Without that, achieving success is difficult in working places and even in life. Behavioral self-control is therefore, an act of checking and controlling of one’s habits, desires, and emotions among other behaviors. Behavioral self-control is one of my own weakest SEI competencies.

Lacking this important intelligence can highly impact on my performance negatively at my workplace in various ways. For instance, lack of it can lead to difficulties in developing interpersonal relationship with my core-workers and the customers, and maintaining the relationships too (Rachlin 126). Poor interpersonal relationships in turn can lead to low productivity and performance in the business causing more losses. To develop this competency; therefore, it is necessary to interact more with those individuals who have high levels of behavioral self-control to learn more from them.

It is also important for me to attend various seminars and workshops about self-control to improve my skills in managing and controlling my own emotions and impulses in the work place and my entire career. I can also register for SEI coaching sessions. For great success in improving and achieving behavioral self-control, I will use rewards and penalties. These will help me achieve the sacrifices of overcoming the negative emotions and fight with unconsciousness. I will also use self-affirmation to avoid bad habits through thinking about the important core values (Rachlin 126).
