The Concept of Positive Behavior Support Intervene System - Literature review Example

Firstly, positive behavior intervention and support and the impact that it has on the organizations which adopt it. Secondly, a detailed analysis of change management and leadership associated with introducing PBIS. Change management, in this case, uses a force field analysis to gain a complete understanding of the pressures for and against the implementation of PBIS systems in a School. The chapter also introduces Al Amanah College including the school’s cultural history and proposed criteria for measurement of improvements associated with the introduction of PBIS.

The next section will detail major aspects of positive behavior intervention and support including the definition, history, and associated theories. The following sections will detail various aspects of PBIS like the three-tier approach and the effectiveness of PBIS.According to Vanderaa, (2004:1), the movement toward inclusion, person-centered values, and applied behavior analysis were the three fundamental areas of disability which became the basis of the concept of positive behavior intervention and support.

Various factors have influenced the emergence and development of positive behavior intervention and support, for example, applied behavior analysis. However, that is not the only source of inspiration for positive behavior intervention and support. Various other factors have played their role in its emergence and establishment. Carr and Sidener, (2002: 251) regarded positive behavior intervention and support as a separate discipline and stated that “now is the time to consider the ramifications of separating PBIS from applied behavior analysis”.

This observation was made in response to an article authored by Anderson and Freeman, (2000) in which they identified positive behavior intervention and support as a system that is necessarily consistent with the analysis of human behavior (Freeman, 2000).Over the years positive behavior intervention and support have seen immense growth and development. It is essential to note that the second half of the twentieth century was a revolutionary period for positive behavior intervention and support.

Scholars and experts from across the world were developing the concept, strategies, and technologies. This was mainly due to the fact that they faced a high number of issues and consequences resulting from the high levels of environmental pollution and complex human lifestyle. There was a severe need to take action to improve the quality of human life. “One of the things that make the modern world "modern" is the development of consciousness of self” (Warren, 1984). They did not want to design strategies that would prove harmful for the generations to come and hence, they tended to develop a more rational approach toward analyzing matters and struggled to mold them in a more favorable way for the betterment and ease of humanity.
