Segal’s sculptors have been a mirror of Segal himself, as “a keeper of America’s conscience”. Segal is seen as the humanist of Pop Art displaying hopelessness instead of comic part of life. Ordinary people are parts of Segal sculptors; his characters seem to be white ghosts. It is a modern art excelling in plaster. Segal has sculpted his friends in figurative casts instead of using freehand.
No artist works in a vacuum. Art is the artist’s way of relating to the world. The artist relates to the environment and history, to the culture and his or her life and place. Art is a way of relating to everything else. It is the nature and purpose of art to create a reaction in the audience, and this can be thought to be permanent in that the reaction can never be undone, only changed.

A similar process of modelization occurs with the body of the fashion model, which is drained of any biological realities. As Elizabeth Wilson puts it, “this is the body as an idea rather than as an organism” (Wilson 1995: 58). Contrary to what one might expect, the essential function of the body of the fashion model is not aesthetic.
