Extract of sample "Nursing Children"

My inspiration to study nursing came from the experience I had in a hospital a few years ago. Since then I have aspired to become a registered nurse and work in a children’s hospital. The field of nursing is quite vast and there are different levels that a nurse participates in the hospital. The overall mandate of the nurse is to offer care to the patient.

During the study of nursing, one has to pass several stages that are integrated with other subjects such as psychology. Psychology is a vast subject and there are many topics that can be adapted to nursing. Psychology entails the study of behavior and mind. Nursing, on the other hand, entails the care of the individual’s health.

Psychology in nursing is very important because it enables the nurse to study and know the behavior of an individual and put appropriate measures in order to facilitate the good health of the individual. During the development of the child and in most cases before the age of 1 year, the majority of the babies are under the care of the nurse and other hospital staff members. This means that the nurse is responsible for the psychological care of the infant (Muller and Taylor, 1999).

The class has helped me understand some concepts and theories in psychology. Although psychology and nursing are entirely different subjects, their interrelation at different levels is crucial for the understanding and care of an individual. At the end of my studies, I would love to focus my study of nursing in child development and care.
