The author states that after the parents were informed at John Tracy’s clinic that their daughter was deaf, they then began their journey in search of how they could help her live a normal life. He puts this down to magic as if their love is caused by some sort of drug, which shows his modesty and his gratitude at this surprising turn of events. In the second passage, he appears as a somewhat boastful person, telling tales of his exotic past, but he is doing this to please and entertain people, not for his own glory.
The setting is clearly outlined and easy to imagine the original setting where the event happened. This was achieved by use of rich figurative language. The narrative has clear and smooth flow from one paragraph to another. The climax of the narrative was clearly defined and this makes the narrative interesting and captivating (Dowhan 38).
The novel, “Looking for Alaska,” is a gripping tale of emotions, which provides a graphic insight into self-doubt, friendship, love, guilt, betrayal, death, and most of all celebrating life. Penned by John Green, his debut effort has all the ingredients that make it an interesting, lifelike yet shockingly dramatic piece of literature.
