The ephemeral effect of life and society did not spare the two contemporary short stories “The Gilded Six-Bits” by Zora Neale and “Long Black Song” by Richard Wright. The Gilded Six-Bits is a story that captivates the issues of love, betrayal and forgiveness, and their importance in human relations and society.
The novel was considered the work of a white male and was discarded for its literary value. Only recently in 1983 this book was discovered by Henry Louis Gate Junior and was published accordingly. The publication of this novel triggered a massive debate within African American literary circles as to the novel’s origin as well as its true purpose.
Generally, the mind can be predictable. It has the ability to develop ideas different from what is usually seen or sensed. This is the very reason why people, especially artists, are exhorted to think out of the box, which actually means to detach from reality and to let their imaginations alone dictate.

This book review begins with the statement that Amrita Pritam’s short story, “The Weed,” narrates the saga of Angoori, a young village girl from India. Her father gives her away in marriage to Prabhati, an aged widower. She lives with him for a while and then falls in love with another man, Ram Tara, a night watchman, who subsequently deserts her and goes back to his village.
The author states that Tate in his poem seems to use a deeper symbolism within the poem to project a deeper meaning of the poem. That even though Jesus had been having some nightmares he seems to be more at ease with the surrounding, his love for people and other living creatures such as donkeys does not fade.
At first, the masculine characters are victimized by domineering women, which is different from the Victorian ethos of men dominating women. Then, the masculinity of Pip is defined by his striving to get to another class, and, in this period, Pip represents society at large, in that society at large is ruled by class and government and, in the Victorian age, men.
All these characteristics are quite important for the spiritual development of individuals as the societal rules and regulations are more demanding than what nature would have been ordained.
