what it can to make these changes but that the soldiers are having problems when they come home ant are attempting to acclimate back into regular society. This article shows a side of this crime that is basically untouchable by regular courts. The Army usually has its own way of dealing with criminals and some of these men may not be punished enough. The article does state that many of the soldiers who commit these crimes are also suffering from PTSD; this would explain why some of them are so brutal in their attacks.

I believe that soldiers should be punished by the law in the way that everyone else is punished who would do this job. An eleven year old, Yajira Quezada, was handcuffed and sent to a detainment center because she spoke to an assistant principal in a rude manner, according to the assistant principal. According to the article, the child had interrupted the assistant principal as he was talking to her, saying, “I don’t have time for this.” The child was handcuffed so tightly that there were abrasions on her wrists in the picture.

To me, this was over the top. The first issue was that this students was not of the same ethnic culture as the assistant principal and in her culture, she may not have been rude. They did not take this into consideration. It also seemed that she was in an environment where people were afraid of her (her name suggests that she may be Muslim) and the principal was more involved with forcing her to comply than he was with understanding what was happening with the student. I thought it was an extreme measure to create a situation that was terrifying for the child.

She was only in sixth grade so this told me there was more going on in this situation than what was in the article. I felt the assistant principal should have done more to assist the student than to send her immediately (after a small amount of interaction with a counselor) to a detention facility; I was impressed that her mother took her out of that school and
