? Human Resources Management Table of Contents Purpose of the Reflective ment 3 Reflective ment 3 Reference 10 Purpose of the Reflective Statement The purpose of the reflective statement is to enable self awareness and enhance personal and professional growth. An individual reflection is drawn based on the prior experiences and learning. The main idea would be to identify and discover the meaning and purpose from the project. It also highlights on the various areas of learning from the project and the way this could be gainful in my future endeavors. The extent of success of the learning process and the factors which has contributed to the same are discussed at length in the reflective statement. Reflective Statement The main learning from the classes has been a radical enhancement of my knowledge of the various subjects in human resource management. This includes the various human resource management planning in organizations, recruitment and selection strategies, compensation and benefit plans in organizations, health and safety of employees, labor and employment relations in organizations, equality and diversity approaches in organizations, affirmative action’s etc. One of the main concerns in the process has been the application of the theories in organizational settings. The main problem that I have confronted with is to apply the vase management theories in different organizational settings. This has been mainly because of the fact that these theories are applicable in particular circumstances and conditions. However, it practicality, circumstances are not only different but also varied and keeps changing constantly. Thus the decision making also changes accordingly. Through the above problem I have rightly realized that there not best way of doing a particular thing but that decisions must be transformed according to circumstances. Apart from the regular theoretical learning one of my other learning pertains to the behavioral aspects in organizations as well. The various leadership behaviors that are expected in different situations and conditions and, according to the basic personality of human beings are now clear and understood. According to my personality I have realized that I must undertake democratic pr participative leadership style in organizations. This is mainly because of the realization that employees and individuals are as important in organizations as the task activities. Without the active participation, involvement and commitment of employees, their loyalty and faithfulness towards the organization cannot be attained and consequently task activities are increasingly to be accomplished. Thus it is for the organizational benefits that employees’ concerns must attended to and their problems must be addressed such that they are comfortable and willing to deliver their best performance in the organization. Some of the activities in class have enhanced my learning of the subject of human resource management further. First and foremost, group activities have enabled my understanding of integrity and the need for interaction and enhancement of communication skills for the purpose. It has actually improved my communication skills considerably. The discussions and presentations in class, class lectures and workshops have greatly added to my idea of the subject and increased my ability of applying them in practice. My critical understanding of human capital has got enhanced greatly. I have come to know how human capital acts a strategic asset of an organization. This was primarily because of the transparency with which the syllabus were laid out and followed in class. Aligning HR activities with the strategic objectives of the businesses has been a major learning through the experience. The impacts of the external and the internal environments on human resource strategies in organizations and also on the ways in which human beings behave in organizations are clear. The establishment of compensation systems with the purpose of attracting, retaining and developing talents in the organization; understanding the criticality and importance of employment relations, managing change initiatives effectively during critical times; leveraging strategic HR skills for adding corporate value to the corporate decision making in the organization are some of my new leanings pertaining to the domain of human resource management (Lunger, n.d.). Apart from the enlightenment of theories and concepts the classes and workshops made in-depth entry into their intended applications at the workplaces and organizations. The classes explained the reading goals of each and every topic, their strategic importance and technique, the best practices of those strategies, the different varieties of perspectives and the emerging and evolving challenges and trends in the global business environments. The case studies emphasizing on the examples from the real world helped bridge all the gaps which were present during readings from books. The faculty and professors assisting us through the process were extremely helpful and guided as completely through the difficult times. They have been particularly responsive and understanding whenever I approached him with any query or difficulty. The learning experiences was particular different and unique from the conventional learning styles as in this case students were active in sharing their experiences, ideas, views with one another and supporting each other through the process. I was really touched by the behavior of my classmates as they demonstrated true depictions of future successful human resource professionals in work organizations. The deliberate attempt of the class activities on group behaviors and team work was commendable as they promoted a collective atmosphere and not on individual learning. Under this there was broadly sharing of ideas, criticisms, rectification of errors, free exchange of views etc which created a very friendly atmosphere each one was content with. We were given with adequate time and space to reflect on the topics, engage in team cohesive behaviors and enhance mutual learning and understanding. The various organizational cases highlighting on the strategic practices followed in organizations, the different HR situations, and problems and issue which emerged in the process enlightened us on the subject completely. The future implications of my learning experiences are immense and would contribute a lot to my future endeavors. The understanding of the aspects of equal employment opportunities for all would help me in future in all aspects of hiring, recruitments, selection, compensation, planning and even collective bargaining. As a future human resource professional I have the responsibility of dealing with the workforce without biasness. It is important that I do not get biased towards some people and overlook the concern for others and that I undertake strategies best suited for the strategic objective of the organization at any point of time. This is one of the main tolls of ensuring commitment and faithfulness of employees in the organization. This is vital for being a leader as well. Leadership and management programs must necessarily be involved with equal opportunities for all program and policies. Developing and creating such program ensures that policies in the organization are abiding by the law and that there are not failures in the sane. Most importantly by desire to a fair human resource professional would ensure by attempt to bring about fairness and remove discrimination of all kinds from the workplace. The present assignments require me to act as a leading role player and managing the activities of several people. This means that I have to employ effective leadership skills in guiding my subordinates through the work systems and procedures. The study of leadership skills and theories have enhanced my knowledge considerably on the subject and helped me acquire suitable leadership qualities and attributes. According to the personal attributes that I posses I have increasingly realized the importance of gaining people’s association and participation while making any decisions in the organizations. According to the Blake and Mouton’s managerial grid, I seem to follow the ‘middle of the road style of management’. This means that I tend to maintain balanced concern for the people or employees and also the task activities. Too much concern for tasks and production activities only creates discontentment among them leading to employee attritions and consequent fall in the reputation and goodwill of the organization. Thus my strategic objective would be to ensure that HR activities ultimately lead to enhancing the goodwill and fame of the organization which helps to maintain its competitiveness in the global market. Another relevance of the present leanings is on my ability to understand the components which favors individual commitment and faithfulness towards employers. This is particularly important for designing compensation and benefit plans for employees. Some of the behavioral concerns like employee’s perceptions towards monetary rewards and non monetary rewards like perks, recognition, fringe benefits, challenges at work, job role and responsibilities have grown in importance recently. People no longer look forwards to higher salaries while evaluating jobs. Such aspects like challenges at the workplace, working environments, designations are some of the factors which motivate employees at the workplace. I have increasingly realized that with the growing global competitive environment, employees strive to maintain sustainability by undertaking challenging and unique work activities which demands high skills and expertise. They are not content with the usual semi-skilled jobs which are found in abundance. My future career plans of taking human resource management as a profession and eventually developing expertise as a developer of human resource management strategies would get a boost through the classes and workshops that I attended. The series of case studies that I have worked on would enable me in understanding different organizational situations d circumstances and best suited strategies during those conditions. The different organizational examples that were provided along with the various difficulties that they confronted with would definitely help me handle organizational difficulties with ease and efficiencies. Moreover, the management theories and practices that were taught in class would also help me associate them with reality. I would have the chance to apply them in practice and gain experience in the same. Most importantly, some of the difficult organizational situations that might arise in my future career endeavors like organization conflicts could be handled effectively. This is because I have gained knowledge of the behavioral aspects of employees and their concerns and also what they expect from the managements. Being a future human resource manager I would have the technical tools and know-how of the organizational conflicts and the ways of dealing with them. As a human resource manager I would also have the responsibility of ensuring that the management practices eventually brought about long term benefits to the organization in terms of increased productivity and performance of employees. The knowledge that I have gained through the classes would help me in evaluating the skill gaps in employees, conduct proper training needs analysis and implement training programs so as to remove the skill gaps in them. As a manager I would also have the ability to conduct counseling sessions with employees so as to bring forth their concerns and grievances. Grievance handling would also account for one of my major task activities. The knowledge that I have gained would most essentially contribute towards my ability of acting a strategy maker in the organization and realizing its long term objectives. All my activities and strategies would be aligned with the business objectives that the firm wanted to realize. It would help me providing direction and guidance to my team members to move forth in the best suited and the most desired way for attaining the organizational objectives. Other than catering towards the concern for employees, ensuring strategic benefits for the firm would also account for one of my main responsibilities in the organization. One of my prime responsibilities in this regards would be human resource planning. My knowledge and expertise would help me realize my objective to become a successful human resource management planner. This is because my ability to assess current conditions and anticipate future needs and requirements has got increased. Under this I would have to foresee the future requirements manpower in the organization and consequently develop strategies to meet those requirements successfully. This way I would be successful in developing a yielding and successful talent pool which would contribute towards the growth and prospects of the organization in the best possible ways.
