HEALTHCARE LEADERSHIP Question the three most important leadership qualities Leadership entails that a person possesses qualities that will enable other people to willingly follow him or her. True leaders have numerous qualities that are attractive to their followers. Among the many qualities of a leader, competence, honesty, and inspiring others stand out. A competent leader is the one who performs an exemplary work and accomplishes more than what was expected. He comes to work daily and is willing to work.

Honest leaders manage their work with truthfulness, telling their followers the situation they are in openly and hardly hiding any information that is critical to the followers. This helps to build trustworthiness essential for effective performance at work. Excellent leaders are also able to inspire their followers. Leaders can achieve this by accomplishing significant tasks and possessing the ability to motivate their followers. They should inspire others through their extraordinary work that will make their followers want to be like them (Posner & Kouzes, 2009).

Question 2: the difference between an effective and successful leader A successful leader is usually able to attain a satisfactory degree of accomplishment at least for some time by focusing on each task and ensuring that the tasks are finished. The leader always achieves this by making certain that jobs are done through supervising or completing the work themselves. Such leaders are always close by so as to keep an eye on the workers and keep them on task. Contrary, effective leadership will result in better performance and greater outcomes in the long-run.

This is achieved by the leaders opting to focus primarily on the growth of others in their attitudes, feelings, and commitment to their goals by increasing their echelons of engagement and task skills. In the case of a successful leader, if the followers are unable or are unwilling to work, the leader takes a highly directive role, guiding them on how to work without being concerned for their relationship. He or she may also present a working structure both for trade and in requisites of how the individual is controlled.

However, in the case of an effective leader, it takes time to find out why a worker is not stimulated and whether there exists any restrictions in ability. This may involve situations where the workers feel incapable or unable to cope with a situation and lack self-confidence as a result. Whereas a successful leader has to stick around to supervise the workers, to ensure that work is performed according to expectations, an effective leader may not have to be around to ensure that work is done suitably and can freely delegate work where fitting.

This will allow leaders to realize their leadership responsibilities efficiently, and long-run sustainability of outcomes will be gained. Question 3: gender differences in leadership styles Differences between male and female leadership and management skills do exist. Several female leaders are childless as they feel that a combination of family and career is untenable. Contrary, a large number of men have families at home supporting them. This difference arises, because in the modern era working just several hours is not sufficient, which is becoming an exacerbating challenge (Northouse, 2010).

Men use the coercive power in their leadership while women apply participatory forms of leadership. Repeatedly, male managers come out predominantly as traditionalist leaders who like to give orders, strive to be on top, and want to lead the team. Women leaders, on the other hand, emerge as significantly more intuitive coalesced with thinking as visionaries or feeling as catalysts. The natural might of the visionary is being tactical, while that of the catalyst is nurturing higher productivity by personally rousing workers.

Men leaders seem to perceive performance as a sequence of transaction rewards for services or punishments for failure, since they are more task-oriented. They are focused on accomplishing goals rather than concentrating on the process of getting to an outcome. Conversely, women are value based transformational leaders. They are concerned with altering and integrating the followers’ principles with the workplace ones. Question 4: burnout Burnout refers to the experience of lasting exhaustion, sluggishness, and also weakened interest.

Burnout is common in high stress jobs sectors. Burnout causes arise from insufficient entity, cultural, institutional, collective support, supervisions, or an amalgamation of all these factors. It is also caused by low self motivation in employees, the withdrawal from participating in decision making situations, and inflexible management policies. Burnout causes individuals to feel disillusioned of their work, become easily irritated, and experience increased anger, cynicism, and negativism. The burnout may also result in back aches, neck aches, migraines, insomnia, loss of appetite, ulcers, and even hypertension.

Question 5: useful subject in class The most useful class subject was on leadership qualities. This was notable because it helped me understand the significance of leadership in a work setting. It was an eye opener topic, as it helped me reflect on issues that deal with teamwork, which needed one student to take an initiative for group work to be done appropriately. I also intend to kindle the interest of my family and trainers in my school work and extracurricular activities, thus helping in boosting my self-confidence. Question 7: analyze the “Annapolis” construct A leader has to embrace ethical and moral values to build trust. This helps to build character as summation of one’s values and the ways these values are applied, affect one’s decisions and action and, ultimately, define the very essence of a person. Ethics dictates character formation, which is crucial in developing an effective or successful leader.
