Technological Convergence Many technologies that were initially designed to perform different tasks are increasingly being merged together to come up with a synergistic multi-use functionalities. One of the best examples of technological convergence is on mobile phone technology. This is a brief discussion of technological convergence with reference to my favorite iPhone 4 S cellphone. IPhone 4 S Cellphone Features Certainly, iPhone 4 S cellphone has some of the most advanced features that can be found on a hand held communication device.

The primary reason why I bought this phone is its simplicity despite having many features. IPhone 4 S has a large screen with retina display technology makes it possible to view a lot of information on a single display without compromising the quality. The accelerator technology keeps everything on the screen on an upright position even when the phone changes orientation. The touch screen technology makes it possible to have a large screen with inbuilt touch keypad. The best technology is I Cloud application.

I Cloud technology enable the user to communicate with other devices such as computers, I Pads, PDAs remotely without connecting to them via cable connections. For instance, I usually send or retrieve music and video files from my computer without using the USB cable. I use my iPhone 4 S to play video games that can project to HDTV by use of Air Play technology. With the 3G internet technology, I can move files and videos through the internet at a speed of 10 Mbps. The most intelligent feature is the Siri technology that makes it possible to communicate verbally with the phone.

I talk and command the IPhone just as I would to a human being. With its two core processors in the A5 microchip, it is the fastest phone that I have ever used especially at gaming. Certainly, iPhone 4 S is one of the best examples of technological convergence. Most of the features have been made possible through combination of different technologies to come up with a more powerful and useful feature. For example, the siri technology encompasses voice recognition and computer processing abilities to understand commands and respond appropriately.

The high-speed data transfer via internet has been made possible by convergence of different data transfer technologies such as HSDPA, WCDMA, GPRS, and HSUPA. The phone is able to achieve high-speed data transfer rate by use of one of the technologies or a combination of two or more technologies. For instance, the phone automatically switches seamlessly from one data transfer format to another when the internet signal fluctuates. This way, it is able to maintain high stability when transferring data.

The phone can perform tasks previously dedicated for computers. For example, the iPhone can edit pdf, .doc, docx, and rtf documents as well as edit photos and videos. Documents can then be printed remotely using the cloud-printing feature. This has been made possible by convergence of several computer technologies into a hand held communication device. Finally, the video chat technology is a technological convergence of video, audio, data transfer, and other technologies. As more innovations come up, we expect more technological convergence to bring about more synergistic devices.
