Tourism in New York and Sevilla Tourism in New York and Sevilla Introduction New York has elaborate and comprehensive means of transport that vary from air transport, rail transport and rail transport. Public transport within the city is relatively cheap, efficient, and convenient. Sevilla is a provincial capital found in the southern parts of Spain. Sevilla’s population is 700,000 people. The population covers almost half of the provincial population. Its location is in the Guadalquivir River plain crossing the city southwards. Similar to New York, Sevilla has various tourists attraction centers renders it a preferred holiday destinations. Air transport in New York City New York City boasts of numerous Air Trains that have full-time operation within the city. There are three main airports people tourists and public travelers use to fly across the city including JFK International airport. The Newark Liberty International airport is a key transport terminal. LaGuardia Airport is another transport terminal in New York. Air transport facilitates tourism industry within the city because it is relatively cheaper to fly across the city at only $5 while children under five years take it free. In addition, tourists who may wish to fly using private flight have only twenty-five minutes to move between Teterboro Airport and Midtown Manhattan. However, air transport in York city, particularly the public sector, may at times limit tourism activities due to frequent commercial air traffic, consequently leading to unwanted delays. Air Transport in Sevilla Sevilla offers a many advantage to tourists of all walks who visit the destination. The Sevilla International Airport is 25 minutes away from the city’s center. The Airport helps in facilitating quick tourist movements in and outside the city. In addition, La Parra International Airport, located only 10km away from Jerez de la Frontera, offers relatively cheap flights for tourists to Sevilla. Most of the flights have WI-Fi access that enables tourists to browse through and access information while on board. However, most of the flight-service-offering companies are relatively expensive to the tourists. Rail Transport in New York City The city of New York mainly utilizes two rail stations found in Midtown, Pen Station on the west side and the Grand Central Terminal on the east side of the city. The stations enjoy services from many bus and subway lines that facilitate an exchange of travelers out and into the stations (Boniface & Cooper 2009, p. 282). The railway transport is a good supplement to other means of transport available in New York because it does not experience traffic congestions. In addition, rail transport offers bulk transportation services to the tourists to curb the challenges of large populations of travelers. Railway Transport in Sevilla The city has the third largest and busiest railway station in the entire station called Seville Train Station and serves over eight million travelers with a good percentage being tourists. The station is located in the eastern region of the city, providing essential transport services to Malaga, Cordoba, and Madrid using AVE and RENFE trains. AVE train offers traveler friendly services to tourists in its second-class, first class and third-class compartments. First class has great comfort to the travelers and premier class offers pure luxury to its clients. Railway transport has the advantage of offering bulk carriage as well as provision of an alternative to the other means of transport (Boniface & Cooper, 2009, p. 282). However, the classification of the train into comfort, premier, and economy classes leads to segregation of people into categories depending on every individual’s economic status. In addition, some travelers face expensive travel charges in attempts of acquiring comfort as the train travels. Main Organizations and Agencies in New York Tourism and Sevilla The agencies are useful in putting out travel guides as well as promoting tourism within a specific region. In New York State, there are both county and municipal tourism agencies. Every county has its tourism office that offers promotional services and tour guide to the tourism destinations in the region and to the tourists respectively. New York also has some agencies that are independent while others are part of the federal government. Chambers of commerce are among the outstanding examples of an independent tourism organization. The agencies also play an important role of currently linking the sponsors of the tourism sector. Some other examples of tourism agencies and organizations in New York include Allegany Tourism office, Livingston chamber of commerce and Cattaraugus County Department of Tourism among others. The Organizational Structure of New York Tourism Agencies The agencies are director general at the top of the organization as the senior most personnel. The director general has two deputy directors and a chief secretary below them. Below in the hierarchy are departments such as planning and research, restaurant, travel and training, National Scenic Area Administration, travel service center domestic tourism, international affairs and other divisions. In Sevilla, tourism and travel agencies mainly carry out the function of organizing for incentives. The agency companies in Sevilla also operate as inbound and coordinators for organizations and businesses. Some of the agencies have specialized in audiovisual production, graphic design, marketing and communication as well as offering innovative solutions customized to the tourism sector. Some of the agencies such as Cititravel DMC have also specialized in meeting and conference travel business. Sevilla agency offices cover all the tourism and destination areas in the nearby environs such Madrid, Mallorca, Valencia, and Madrid. In my view, Sevilla provides the best models of tourism. The reason for the argument is that the agencies in Sevilla are going beyond providing tour guides and promotion of the sector to train and organize for incentives too. The act may have a positive influence in making the tourism sector continue flourishing and achieving a great milestone in performance. Key Attraction Factors in New York New York has various key factors that attract tourists from diverse world cities. Such factors vary from geographical sceneries, historic sites, and cultural events to performing arts. Examples of the key factors of attraction include the geographical aspects such as five boroughs, Brooklyn and Queens. The islands such as Manhattan and Staten Island are also part of such geographical factors. New York also enjoys the presence of favorable weather conditions that contributes highly towards attracting tourists into the area. Moreover, New York has Puerto Rico that is the home of the world’s largest single telescope made in the shape of a dish. People around the region speak Spanish and English. Further, Puerto is the only telescope of a radio that can accurately help in predicting where a collision of an asteroid and earth. Another tourist attraction factor is the Toro Verde futures that known to be the earth longest zip lines found on earth. Hand painted ceramics; carpets with intricate patterns, Byzantine-style jewelry, lanterns among other eye-catching products are great attractions within the bazaar’s vaulted walkways. For Sevilla, filmed induced sites take the central part of the tourist attraction center. Sevilla, has for many years, remained a conspicuous setting for both national and international productions of films. In their film research for tourism, the focus revolved around the impacts, destination choice and travel preferences. Sevilla provides for a mixture of beautifully clear, but sunny winter days with cloudy, semi-darkness, but warm days and evenings are noticeably cooler. The highest temperature recorded hit about 20°C and nights experience as low as 10°C. Approximate Number of Tourists Annually and the Potential to Grow New York receives an approximate annual number of visitors of up to about 91, 250, 000 persons making it one of the world leading tourist destinations. The number also includes the domestic tourists who also contribute to a big percentage in the sector. Sevilla, on the contrary, receives a slightly lower number of tourists compared to New York. However, with the current high increase rates in the number of tourists visiting the city, it shows higher likelihood of growth than New York, which to some extent has already achieved its optimum. Sevilla is also holding the potential of a bright future because many people all over the world have developed a positive attitude towards learning Spanish as their third language. Sevilla shares so many links to its neighboring cities and local environments. In terms of transport, Sevilla has strong relationships with cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, and Cordoba. There are numerous activities in the manner in which these towns exchange tourists and share facilities such as international airports. However, New York, though also enjoy relationships with the surroundings, but it looks more self-sufficient because of centralized services. The self-dependence in the New York City increases its development and growth. Sevilla also finds support services from the sister cities; hence, it realizes quick development and growth. Its proximity to other neighboring cities is strategically such that it receives timely services at the shortest time possible. Policy Statements from New York and Sevilla The first policy statement from New York is the Cruise Shipping Policy. The policy covers an area that consists of the largest systems of the world’s coral reefs besides lagoons, mangroves, estuarine communities, and sea-grass. The policy ensures the protection of areas critical for maintenance of an environment that is healthy for sustainable business and tourism industry. The second one is Managing tourism Permissions to operate to enable the government to operate on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It also addresses the issue of marine park allocation, tenure, and latency. Conclusion Both New York City and Sevilla are great global tourist destination centers, though the two cities show a few differences. The differences come mainly because of geographical and time differences. Both New York City and Sevilla, though far apart, reveal great potentials of growing even further to continue capturing the world tourism market. Bibliography Boniface, B.
