Drug abuse in countries following Islam is not prominent though the same cannot be said when it comes to drug production. Now, after worldwide consensus on the destructive nature of 'drugs', several initiatives have been taken to minimize the effects or eradicate the usage, which will never be accomplished. The Thailand Prime Minister in 2003 declared proudly that his country is free of drugs but, questions still exist on its validity. My opinion on the most dangerous drug is based on its prevalence, its effect, related crime, availability, etc.
MDMA (3, 4 methylenedioxymethamphitamine) is the most dangerous drug in the world simply because its use is widespread and is very easy to make and is cheaply available not to forget the effects it has on the body. It was primarily used as a facilitator for psychotherapy but soon found itself listed on the Controlled Substances List for obvious reasons. It is a colorless, tasteless white crystalline substance more popular on the party circuit. This is what makes it all the more dangerous because people are unaware of whether their drinks have been spiked.
It gained prominence in Taiwan and Japanese regions before finally being introduced to other regions all around the world. since, it has been a problem well out of control and reports of big hauls of MDMA dot the pages all over the world on a regular basis. All this; despite the awareness of the extreme consequences as a result of using this dreaded pill. Rave parties have been responsible to a large extent, for the increase of MDMA consumption among the youth. These parties initially thought to be harmless gatherings, attracted youth in large numbers and instantly became havens for drugs.
The proliferation was manifold because of the instant high; 'ecstasy' gave, especially among the 13 - 25 age groups. Statistics show amphetamine is the preferred drug amongst multiple drug users. The number of people getting admitted for MDMA rehabilitation is on the increase. Other drugs like Cocaine, Heroin, Marijuana, etc are all destructive in their own way but the way meth has spread all over the world within a short span of time is unbelievable. The advantage meth has is that it can be manufactured anywhere in a small farmland, apartment or even a tiny single room.
And all the ingredients required to make it are readily available in the market, though now there are measures in place to limit the sales to an individual. Meth can be taken by orally, snorted or by injecting into the veins. Users experience an immediate feeling of alertness and supreme confidence. Meth stimulates the high production of dopamine which is associated with a feeling of pleasure. Over time, the same enzyme production is inhibited which can result in serious diseases like the Parkinson's disease, brain damage, lung, kidney and liver disorders and schizophrenia.
The physical effects are pupil dilation, dizziness, and respiratory problems. In some cases, users die due to convulsions and collapse of the cardio-vascular system. Several statistics show high prevalence among the youth especially the teen groups who are under more peer pressure than others. Most often these people go on to become regular uses and succeed in spreading the usage to a larger pool. It is generally understood that an average meth producer teaches ten people the knowledge of preparation.
Though there are several other
