My research paper answers the question of whether undocumented should be allowed in the United of America or deported. Scholarly journals, newspaper articles, websites, and books were essential sources in this research. Scholarly journals supplied facts about the number of undocumented students, and a variety of conflicting opinions on the topic discussion. Newspaper articles supplied information about laws of undocumented students. The book was a valuable addition to the research as it contained interviews with undocumented students. The website aided in supplementing information into how the government has tried to solve the problem of undocumented students. Scholarly Journals: This scholarly journal article was published as both a print and electronic source. It was intended for scholars in immigration issues. The first part of the journal introduces reasons for how the policy debates will influence the status of undocumented students. Furthermore, the author, Julian Jefferies, has supplied data, and laws that will affect undocumented students. Jefferies also demonstrates how the media is involved in this issue. Jefferies then supplied the argument between the opponents, and proponents and the time frame that is advocated by four organizations. Jefferies conclusion was that we have included the stakeholder to see their views on how society operates rather than the individual. The article was recently published in 2008 and the author is currently an instructor at Boston College, researching the daily practices of recently-arrived immigrant youths; he is interested in the different responses to global immigration. He has included five references in the Scholarly journal article. References were included for all studied the aspects of immigration, youth education, and undocumented student in U.S.A. this includes: Social Work with Immigrants and Refugees, Legal Issues, Clinical Skills and Advocacy. This shows the collective study on a large group of Legal and undocumented students. The source is based on statistical facts, and avoids personal opinions. However, the article also gives the perspectives of the competing viewpoints on the immigration subject. The main idea of the newspaper article demonstrated the difficulty undocumented students have with their educational life with when faced with the lack of in-state tuition benefits. Mary Beth Marklein’s conclusion is that undocumented students who matured in the United States should not be penalized for their parents’ decisions to participate in illegal immigration. The author, Mary Beth Marklein, is a reporter for USA Today that is concerned with higher education. Since 1997 Mary Beth Marklein has been covering higher education for the USA Today, and often reports on education problems related to illegal immigrants. This news article is current to the research topic. In her research Marklein used Contributing: Abbott Koloff of the Daily Record, Morris County, N.J.; Andrew Seaman, Katharine Lackey; she also interviewed a number of relevant parties. Marklein argues that children should not pay the price of their parents’ mistakes. Helping these students is the right thing to do even if its unpopular. This source is trustful because it is a famous news article and has been cited by other reliable sources. While it is not the only sole source of information, it greatly aided in the understanding the immorality of punishing an undocumented student that matures in the United State of America because of their parents’ mistakes. Magazines: This magazines article was a printed and electronic source from the Chronicle Magazine. It was intended for the interest of the general public. The main idea of the magazine article investigates Congress deliberation on whether it is good for the economy to grant undocumented students access to in-state tuition. Megan Eckstein’s article demonstrates both points of view. Furthermore, Eckstein’s article presents examples of undocumented students and their perspectives. Eckstein’s conclusion is that it is difficult to consider pieces of immigration legislation without arguments regarding immigration reform. The article’s author, Megan Eckstein, is a news reporter concerned with immigration problems. She is qualified and has written a series of articles on education, laws, and legislation on the educational systems. Eckstein only reports for Chronicle Magazines. The article was published on May 8th 2009 and is current and contains helpful information. This article was written using research and interviews with students related to the topic. The article may be slightly slanted in support of undocumented students. The source is very valid as it is supported by outside sources, specifically those concluding that undocumented students who matured in the United States should not be penalized for their parents’ decisions to participate in illegal immigration. I recommend the article because it helps student understand how undocumented students suffer to complete their education. Book: This printed book is an informational concerning all undocumented immigrants. This book is intended for the general public. It starts by giving a brief history on undocumented immigrants, their suffering and how they are refugees from dangerous lands. Part two gives the voice of witnesses through interviews with undocumented immigrants and shows how they are prevented from achieving their dreams. Part three supplies statistics, facts, and human rights information for undocumented immigrants. Edited by San Francisco State University writing professor and novelist Peter Orner, this book is extremely reliable and deeply researched. The research method was very effective because it includes many interviews and a variety of opinions. The book was published in 2008 and is current for the topic. The author was to try and persuade the reader by demonstrating the suffering and plight of undocumented immigrants, so the public will help these immigrants achieve their dreams. Based on the editor’s background, this book is an extremely trustful source, and the other sources support the conclusions derived by this book. This book also gave me a better understanding of the issues of undocumented students; however, it did not help with my arguments regarding opposing viewpoints. On the other hand, this source helps the research as it contains a number of first-hand accounts about the topic that I will utilize, such as the Lorena story. Every source has supplied new information and in many regards supplemented each other. I recommend the book because it will help you understand how undocumented students suffer to complete their education and that this is a human rights violation. I found this the book in DU Online Catalog by searching undocumented students and illegal aliens and rearranged the results by data. Website: The web page was created by member of the Congressional District of California, Mike Honda. It was intended to help undocumented students achieve their dreams. The main point of this site shows how Senators and groups try to reintroduce immigration acts to Congress. Mike Honda concluded that some immigrations acts may provide a serious problem to the American economy; however, the act’s passage may also have a positive impact on the United States’ economy. Mike Honda earned his Bachelor degree in Biological Sciences and Spanish, and holds a Masters degree in Education from San José StateUniversity. Mike Honda has substantial experience because of his position, and his focus to improve education makes him qualified to write about the problems of undocumented students. On April 6th 2009 this article was published so it is current. The source can be trusted because he is a Senator and the information matches many other sources. Mike Honda analyzes the problem outside research and undocumented student experiences. He has tried to help undocumented students to pass the Dream Act. These articles helped my research as they include undocumented students’ political views, and I will use this source for its political arguments. I would recommend it to another student doing research on undocumented students in conjunction with supplementary information.
