Ulcers and Stress Psychology, Ulcers and Stress The article, “Effects of lifetime stress exposure on mental and physical health in young adulthood: How stress degrades and forgiveness protects health” is a study that was carried out to help in identifying the relationship between psychology, ulcers, and stress. This study was published in the year 2014, by the authors Toussaint Loren, Shields S. Grant, Dorn Gabriel and Slavich M. George. The study was published under the Journal of Health Psychology (JHP).

One of the purposes for under taking this study is to examine risks and resilience factors that affect health. Only few studies have taken an effort to measure life time stress exposure and tried to assess the effects that come along with these exposures on mental and physical health. In automated stress assessment systems, this has been the major issue reported. This therefore has contributed to expressing the need for this study. Departments from two colleges took part in this study. One of them was the department of Psychology at Luther College and Department of Psychiatry and Bio-behavioral Sciences, University of California, Los Angeles, USA.

However, the main sponsoring institution is the Luther College. The method used in this study involved: 148 young adult participants and the Stress and Adversity Inventory (STRAIN) measure. Some questions were used in the assessment of these individuals’ tress exposure. Some of these questions included, “Have you ever found out that a partner was unfaithful to you? Have you ever tried to look for a job for at least six months but could not find a stable job?” (Toussaint et al., 2014). These questions helped in the assessment of the participants to later come up with solutions.
