Extract of sample "Emotional Intelligence"

I took a test about emotional intelligence from the About.com Educational Psychology website and the test was trying to measure several things about me. Some of the things the test was trying to measure include my knowledge about what my friends’ feelings are about my other friends in our friends’ circle, what my reactions are when my co-worker has an annoying habit, my reaction to a friend who has suffered a major problem, my reaction to minor problems, what to do when my efforts do not pay off well, how easy I make friends, my ability to make important decisions, my reactions to more heated arguments, what to do when facing an unpleasant task, my abilities to judge a character, my confidence level about my skills, talents, and abilities, how aloof and detached I am when trying to know a person, my reactions to confrontations, my feelings in emotionally charged situations, my reactions when I make mistakes, and whether I like the person I am generally. In summary, the test was about my reaction to situations, abilities, feelings, and abilities to socialize, handle problems, and decision making.

Question 2

There were many biased situations represented in the test. To begin with, the test may be considering someone in a workplace who has a co-worker, yet not everyone might be employed. Therefore, different unfair results could be obtained when people who have no co-workers at the workplace attempt the test. The test also tends to be gender biased as it talks about how one would react to a friend who has had a miscarriage. This particular question normally should apply to ladies, and most appropriate when a lady candidate was taking the test. What if one has only male friends? The male friends do not have miscarriages. It means therefore that the results of the test taken by different people would be unfair.

Question 3

The test is not that controversial, even though it might represent some elements of controversy when the results were disclosed to the friends of the person taking the test. For instance, when giving your result about whether you know how your friends feel about each other in your circle of friends, this might be controversial when the friends would require you to give exactly why you feel so. Again, by giving your answer to the questions about what you would do when your co-worker does annoying things to you if the results could be revealed to your co-worker, the controversy could arise.

Question 4

Emotional intelligence can effectively be assessed since it measures how a person interacts with the environment in which he or she operates in. The extent and level of this interaction can be determined to help in assessing the emotional intelligence of an individual. When one’s emotional intelligence is effectively assessed and evaluated, there can be the need to develop target programs and measures that fit individuals. This will help in improving an individual’s performance, interacting with others as well as leadership potential. This shows that emotional intelligence can be taught and improved upon.

Question 5

Theory of multiple intelligences: this theory focuses on how people acquire different types of cognitive skills and how this same individual is able to apply different cognitive shells in certain areas of life, but not all (MHS, 2014). This relates to emotional intelligence in that, it specifies that a person has multiple intelligences that they can apply in various situations and not others.

Emotional intelligence testing helps in improving the performance and productivity of an individual either at workplace or to personal effect (Soc, 2002). The major down-sides to the practice include the ability to design the correct tool to be effective in testing emotional intelligence for different characters. When emotional intelligence is measured, it predicts the emotional quotient (EQ) of an individual.
