In support of the information provided in Case Study Number 56, Carl’s employment ought to be terminated. To start with, what an employee does during their free time greatly reflects on their employer company hence influencing the public perspective of the respective firm. For instance, in Carl’s case, his racist behaviour indicated a breach of ethical policies as set aside by his employer firm. This is proven by Angie’s assertion that there exists a clause within the firm’s policies that would get him fired instantly. However, Carl continues to be ignorant and careless by talking back to his superior rudely and claiming that he has work to do and rather than waste time snooping through the internet, she should do the same. Besides his racist conduct as proven by the pictures on the internet, his rude and disrespectful personality qualifies him for firing because, in the long run, his actions will contribute to the deterioration of the company’s public image.

What public employee does during their free time should remain a concern to the public agency in which they work particularly if it triggers a negative result (John, 2006). In most cases, these public agencies are perceived as their employees depict. This means that if an employee indicates extreme racial segregation and the employer agency does not take any countermeasures against it, the public assumes that the agency is the root of such behaviour. Therefore, to avoid such misjudgment, these agencies should pay attention to what their employees do during their free time. The type of position and status of the employee does not surface as an influence to my stand because irrespective of either, the agency’s public image is at stake.

In conclusion, as Angie, I would ensure that Carl got what he deserves. Notwithstanding his racist behaviour, Carl is rude, and disrespectful, and does not acknowledge the authority of his superiors. These alone are not the core character traits of a public agency employee.
