?Conscientiousness and Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder Purpose The study in question is a complex examination of the empirical interrelations of OCPD and conscientiousness that goes beyond the current psychiatric means of quantifying and categorizing these personality disorders. Summary of Hypotheses There are a number of hypotheses the researchers advanced in this study. The researchers hypothesized that the conscientiousness related scales will demonstrate significant interrelation with the measures for OCPD. It is also hypothesized that the study’s findings will demonstrate a number of similar results to outside research measuring similar components from a bottoms-up approach. Among these research elements, the study indicates that the finds should correlate to specific components of OCPD developed by the Dimensional Assessment of Personality Pathology-Basic Questionnaire (DAPP-BQ), as well as the propriety and workaholism scales from the SNAP. Methods The research study was conducted through the examination of multiple psychiatric scales that examined the nature of conscientiousness, DSM-IV OCPD, and specific elements of OCPD. Among the specific scales that were incorporated into this methodology included the NEO PI-R, the experimentally altered version of the NEO PI-R, the HEXACO PI-R, the TCI-R, the MPQ, and the FFMRF. In addition to these scales measuring conscientiousness, seven scales measuring OCPD are implemented in the methodology. The scales included a variety of means of collecting research information. These methods generally considered OCPD and conscientiousness as disorders along a continuum rather than a specific taxonomic criterion. In these regards, the scales included both number categorizations, as well as qualitative word categorizations along a qualitative continuum. Within this overarching method, a number of further approaches were incorporated into the research process. A general survey methodology was instituted through a number of individuals. Individuals within this research category were then chosen based on their adherence to five of eight statistical categories within the PDQ-4. Within this group 150 individuals were chosen based on their adherence to these statistical dimensions, and then the research pool was opened to more individuals such that in total 559 individuals were implemented in the study research. Results The results were collated into a complex array of quantitative data. The first statistical correlations that were considered were among the statistical scale data between differing measures of conscientiousness. In these regards, the research confirmed the viability of these studies, indicating that the, “total number of experiment-wise comparisons was 275, yielding a corrected alpha value (.05/275) of .00018. All correlations within Table 2 were significant at this threshold” (Samuel & Widiger 6). This research indicates that among the data that measured conscientious rates among the sample data, there was statistically significant correlation. The next results measured the relation between measures of conscientiousness and measures of OCPD. As is earlier indicated that was the predominant purpose of the research in question. In these regards, the data findings revealed that every scale within the MCMI-III OCPD measure revealed a statistically significant correlation between the all measures of conscientiousness. However, the MCMI-2 that measured OCPD correlated negatively with the scale measures of conscientiousness. Within these statistical findings, the research was further broke down and specified into the particular categorical elements. In these regards, elements of order and self-discipline didn’t even achieve a modicum of statistical correlation, whereas the other areas received a small faction of cross-significance. Still, other such measures noted that, “The HEXACO PI-R facet of perfectionism, however, actually achieved a large median effect size (r Read More
