This paper posits that the election and reelection of Obama in modern times is not an isolated event, but is the culmination of a long and tumultuous history of African American struggles to achieve parity in politics and parity in the way American society accords African Americans their fundamental human and civil/political rights. 

Key among such theorists was John Locke and Plato both of whom fronted their ideas of the structures of a perfect government. The creation of a functional government benefits the whole society. Democracies for example provide effective ways for the populace to combat such vices as corruption and nepotism among others.
