In this way, education is not only the primary element of success for us as individuals but also collectively as a nation. With education, as individuals we learn how to read and write, as a nation we learn how to share ideas a express our opinions. As individuals we learn how to perform calculations, as a group we can send a man to the moon. Education therefore becomes the primary measure of how far we have progressed as individuals and where we are going as a nation. Therefore an educated individual is not someone who knows how to read and write or even a person who has achieved greatness in some scientific field.
An educated person is one who seeks to continually improve his/her own being and to seek out ways in which our society can be improved as a collective. In fact, the more educated a person becomes the more respect s/he has towards his/her fellow human beings since education teaches the basic principles of humility, understanding, appreciation and looking towards common grounds while a lack of education teaches pride and teaches a person to look at the differences between us and them. The lessons of peace, forgiveness and tolerance all come from education while the path of hate, fear and intolerance come from a lack of education.
Therefore even if a person can not read a single word, as long as s/he is ‘educated’ s/he certainly can call upon his/her education to be a guide towards success. However, with the added advantage of having a conventional education, that person can not only make a difference in one life, s/he can make a difference in the life of hundreds. The best example of which comes from those who choose to make a career out of educating themselves and others as a life long objective i.e. our teachers and educators.
