It entails six steps of self evaluation practice for teaching and learning process that promotes personal and professional growth (Gibbs, 1988). The steps are: description of actions; feelings and thought while doing the job; evaluation of work done; analysis of work done; conclusion of the analysis; and action plan for improved and improvised outcome. The different steps are designed to provide an in-depth reflection on our actions that encourages us to look at our actions from the perspective of third person so that they (actions) could be evaluated and analyzed.

The self analysis thus persuades one to improve and improvise our actions so that our performance outcome is improved, leading to professional growth with safe practice for oneself and others. This week’s work description, while working in a group of eight other colleagues was an intensely thought provoking because it helped me to evolve as a person and also provided the necessary learning experience for professional growth. Gibbs’ Cycle of Reflection greatly facilitated in self improvement when introspective practices were used to contemplate the work done during the week’s time.

In one group meeting in the university, members paired up and completed a personality questionnaire - a group evaluation rubric, to assess oneself and each other. There were six categories for evaluation: contribution; attitude; focus on the task; working with others; monitor group effectiveness; and time management. While I chose 3,4,3,4,3 and 4 to assess my level of grade vis-à-vis the categories, my partner asserted that I am more identified with 4,4,4,4,3 and 4.
