Conflict Management College: Introduction Leadership is believed to be a process that amalgamates one’s influence to enlist the support and aid of masses in achieving a common goal. There is a simple concept of a leader being someone who is followed by others, one who directs or guides others. In business or company perspective, a leader can be said to be one who can successfully and efficiently organize a group of people so as to oversee the achievement of a goal. Several theories have been used to define leadership. These theories are based on intelligence, charisma, values and vision, behavior, function, situational interaction, characteristics among others. In organizations, must a leader to exhibit effective leadership characteristics. This is achievable through the applications of concepts of leadership qualities. In the group performance, there is an illustration of how leadership qualities are vital in solving conflicts through effective conflict management design. More so, conflict management is one of the essential areas in defining leadership as to be effective or ineffective. The group discussion offers a guide to debates, concepts and ideas that are crucial in as far as the exercising of leadership is concerned. This is so because in managing conflicts; a leader needs to be authoritative, creative and exercise cross sectional leadership. A lot of motivational and emotional intelligence is needed while handling conflicts in any business. From the performance, there is an acknowledgment of the fact that conflicts present a positive ground for improvement and betterment of an organization. This greatly elevates the leadership view of the team. Based on the theory of leadership by Bass, there is an explanation of the factors that are used to define a good leader. The first theory is called the Trait Theory. This theory recognizes the fact that there is a possibility of someone leading others in a natural way. This asserts that certain individuals are born as natural leaders. The second view points to the fact that a situation or crisis may come handy in defining a leader, a fact that is widely discussed and considered in the group’s performance. In rising to the occasion during conflicts and initiating, an effective conflict management form, the leadership qualities that are extraordinary are exhibited. The theory that bases on this is the Great Events Theory. Moreover, there is space for one to learn the various leadership skills and choose to become good leaders. This is explained under the Process or Transformational Leadership Theory (Segal & Smith, 2014) The ideas of the leadership quality through conflict management Leadership attributes can be defined by how a leader addresses conflicts that arise from the day to day operations in an organization. Conflict can be defined into two different perspectives. The first perspective is the issue oriented conflict. This refers to a conflict that presents a situation where one party has the idea that another party is negatively affecting or opposing its interest (Wall & Callister, 1995, p. 517). On the other side, there is a relationship oriented conflict. In this form of conflict, there are dissonance, disagreement and incompatibility that are exhibited between or within two social entities (Rahim, 1992, p. 16). Leadership is widely viewed as a process whereby one guides the others in achieving the organization’s objectives while ensuring that the company remains coherent and cohesive. This aspect can only be achieved through effective conflict management process, which has been well illustrated in the group discussion. There is a need for program managers and directors to inspire their staffs to levels of high productivity. In the verge of this objective, conflicts and disagreements are bound to arise. This, therefore, calls for effective and well formulated conflict management strategies for the leaders. The issues of leadership concepts result here, where the leader must be kept abreast of what he or she must do, know or be to the organization and the employees. The group presentation presents the benefits of conflict in an organization. As a leader, one must acknowledge the fact that conflicts is bound to occur. More still, a good leader sees positive effects from the conflicts. The groups presentation lines some of the benefits of conflicts, among them being helping to identify the problems in an organization. In this method, future problems can be avoided. This presents a leadership trait of all inclusive leaders. There are a deeper understanding and a better understanding among the members of the organization. This exhibits leadership concept that is flexible and one that takes up conflicts as a learning process to better the company, as opposed to killing it (Eilerman, 2006). PART B In carrying out an evaluation of leadership ability, one has to examine the manner in which a leader handles crisis and the organizational skills. The fact that conflict is part of everyday life cannot be disputed. Any company cannot shy away from this point. As a leader and individual in any company, one must be that, in one way or another, conflicts will be experienced. There is no single leadership model that has been in existence, and that has totally eliminated the conflicts or personality clashes in an organization. On the contrary, the tensions, situations and challenges that arise from conflicts have been found to be useful in terms of improving the growth and development of an institution or business. However, this applies only if the conflicts are handled well and in a professional way. In order to grow and develop to greater heights, an organization needs the conflicts and tensions. The concerns that should be addressed are not whether conflicts are bound to emerge but as to how a leader will handle the conflicts when they arise (Anit, 2008). Looking at the groups presentation, it is clear that the group possesses many leadership qualities. This is based on the fact that there is a clear sign of adequate and effective handling of a crisis when they appear, and an efficient system of crisis management. A conflict can be termed as a crisis. Managing that conflict that arises culminates into a good organizational behavior, hence portraying effective leadership quality. A good leader has to be effective in conflict management. The group acknowledges the aspect of conflict management as having a vital effect on the promotion of goal achievement and improvement in the learning in an organization. This portrays the quality of leadership. Nevertheless, in the presentation, the team lists down a series of benefits that are tied to good conflict management. From the list, one gets the notion that they are indeed effective leaders with good leadership qualities. The team sights the mitigation of negative effects of conflicts, indicating that it helps to avoid levels of highly charged conflicts. The satisfaction of all the group members, building consensus and the fact that they exchanged information in the discussion openly points to the fact that they are indeed leaders with quality. Leadership is all about accommodating each and every person’s view, with the aim of getting the best from the human resource available. A quality leader can hear out what all the team members have to say and to pick what is helpful in all the prepositions. This is evident in the team’s ability to allow everyone to offer his or her own ideas, and to open up a discussion of differences. This is the only way through which all the team members can be satisfied and feel appreciated in a group. The maximization of performance and sharing out of information and business characterizes quality leadership. A good leader needs to delegate duty and tasks. This is the only way through which everyone in the team will feel useful and his or her contribution important to the team. The group indicates that all the teammates were allowed to help one another and that there was much sharing out of tasks. This is a pointer to the aspect that they are indeed leaders who possess the desired leadership quality (Younyoung, 2013). Leadership is exhibited in the conflict management style one takes. Appropriate conflict management style needs to be speedy so as to prevent the conflict from reaching retrogressive levels. This is necessary as it helps an organization or its leader to overcome the assertive subordinates. The group portrays this under conflict management style. The group shows an advanced possession of leadership quality from their life experiences. This is evident from the way they define a crisis down to the crisis management modes that they list. Moreover, during the debate, it is vital to see that there was a free flowing discussion. Every member of the group seemed to be contributing, and they were even helping one another out. This shows great leadership quality as in leadership; business is important, and so is team work. From the models, it is clear that the group explores very efficient and sufficient methods of resolving conflicts whenever they occur. As a group or institution is made up of people, conflicts are bound to happen. How a leader manages to address these conflicts greatly affects the development of the business. References Anit, S.
