Born in 1944, Mike Rose is one of the greatest American literary scholars widely recognized for his insights into the struggles and challenges of working-class Americans. Drawing from his personal experience, interviews, family memory and observational data, the author has effectively conveyed intellectual and emotional forces that are often associated with any form of physical work.
Starting at the third page of the novel, where Lockwood’s crossing the Heights’ heavily embellished ‘threshold’, the novel sets up several such thresholds for the characters to crossover and overcome – symbolizing social expectations in Victorian society. When looking at the story of creation from the Old Testament, there are differences that are found between Job and the priest that make the different depictions. The basis of what God represents to the religion remains the same symbol. However, there are changes that occur based on the cultural affiliations and individual perspectives of both, making the interpretation of the complete aspects of God differ.
I find the literature review clearly written because its contents were highly organized. The proponents were able to relate all major concepts which can be found from the title of the study. All major concepts were given an equal amount of focus in the literature review, which made the entire study clear and enough to be understood.
