To foster emigration and colonization efforts, humans receive robots or androids that are supposed to help them. These humanoids can barely be distinguished from real human beings due to their high level of sophistication.
Chapter 13 provides evidence of a further level of “perversity”. Ultimately, due to the fact that the mutiny upon the ship and the subsequent struggles that it had taken place had deprived these individuals of necessary resources, including food, water, and bedsheets (to be used to catch rainwater).
