Ugly Place A lady can never forget her experiences at a place, an ugly place. She lived in the place for over a century. She is the longest living person in the place. From beginning to the end of time, she saw and experienced changes occurring in the place. The place was new to her, ugly as well. The place was ugly because there were too many people in it. Long before the place became overcrowded, it was full of beauty. It had trees, deer, bears, and caring natives worshipping their god and seeking guidance. Then, people with technology came to the place and the place became the new place for everybody. The natives abhorred change and were contented with the richness that nature presented to them. Over time, people of all walks of life inhabited the place changing the very foundations of its beauty. The new place swelled to become the nations greatest industrial metropolis, thanks to the massive influx of immigrants and technological innovations. The place turned into one of the worlds most complex urban environments, bringing with it a host of social problems. Edouard de Laboulaye conceived the little girl in his thoughts even before she was born. As an embryo, she was mainly rock, albeit having the other elements of life. She did not have any conscious and no name had been assigned to her at this moment. She began to form her conscious from the friendship and freedom that existed between two ugly places. She was born of the kind of fire that can melt steel. Hardened by life, she became the iron lady who would lead the people of ugly place. When she arrived at the place, she was convinced that the place was quite ugly. But In spite of this, she felt that the place had several new things. She had never seen these new things before. She did not understand at that time the newness because she was new to the place herself. The new things were the feelings and collective thoughts of people. She was wondering what would become of these people. They had things that she could not find anywhere in the world. The lady maintained watchful eyes on her people and the future of the new place being close to her heart. The most valuable thing in her observation was the collective thoughts of the people. She did not know yet what would be the consequences of these thoughts. One day, she realized that the place was filled with people. The trees had disappeared and the animals were nowhere to be seen, possibly withdrawn to the wilderness. Instead of singing birds, waving trees, and numerous animals, there were buildings and people in their masses. The place was all geometric angles and stones shaped to precision. The beauty of the place became mythical like the lost city of hope, Atlantis. There was need to accommodate more immigrants and the growing population, somehow. However, there was not a single piece of land to accommodate the rising wave of immigration. The only place people could get accommodation was up the sky. This was the only place where there was uncharted territory in the place. However, the sky was a forbidden place, the preserve of the gods. The lady was afraid. She was afraid that people would overstep the boundary of man’s virtue. She was afraid that people would try to conquer the heavens. However, the people’s desire for transformation was beyond measure. The place’s transformation began with the building of a bridge. The construction of the bridge marked the beginning of what would become the vertical rise of the new place. The bridge was a structure far larger than anything ever before conceived. This construction of this monumental structure marked a new era in the new place. People began to see the bright future of the place; electricity, steel and the goodies that came with technology. This transformation rippled throughout the world. People cheered with hope. People wanted to reach the sky. They hoped that people could become citizens of heaven, subduing whatever good it had to offer. The lady wondered if this would be a mistake or a triumph. Not long after people built the bridge, they reached the heavens with a building that they called the Empire State Building. The gods became angry on seeing that unwelcome strangers had visited the heavens. The gods unleashed immense wrath on the people. Abject poverty befell the new place. It was brutal poverty. No wealth was found in this petrified place and the citizens of ruin were mortified. People everywhere starved to death. It became apparent that the father (nation) of the place had abandoned the new place too. People living in the new place had to survive somehow. The ugly place taught people how to survive through harsh times as the people became stronger. Finally, every once in a while there was a great leader, who called himself father of the new place. The father promised that the great new place would endure as it had endured before, would be revived continuously and would prosper. The people of great new place thought that their prosperity would be perpetual. One quiet morning in autumn, the lady woke up to a thunderous sound. She thought that the sky was falling. The sound spread throughout the new place and the world. Not long after the horrible sound, she realized that the sound was not the falling sky but it was an evil. The evil destroyed everything in his path. So many people died that morning; people hid fear sketched on their faces. The lady was helpless and cried with sorrow. Her heart ached with fear as the tragedy bit. An inexplicable tragedy rocked the people’s hearts. Suddenly, serious voices reverberated throughout the ugly place. The voices spoke of hope and bravery. The day the people’s faith faded saw new bravery surface among the people. The day despair had fallen at the place, new hope arose. The incidence redefined the ugly place forever. People’s bravery was strengthened and there arose hope for the future. On the faces of people, the lady saw hope instead of despair. People of the new place realized that the only thing they have to fear is fear itself. With bravery and hope, the new place was reborn. The new place represents changes in the lady’s mind. The changes come from birth, ideas, hope, despair, and the rebirth of the place. After this moment, the lady solved the mystery that lingered on her mind since she arrived here. In the beginning she doubted with mindless frustration the people living in the ugly place. She thought that it was an ugly place with heartless people. But she was wrong in the end. People of the new place triumphed one of the greatest crisis ever known to the world with collective thought emerging from good hearts. Over the years, the meanings of the lady have grown until she has become an icon of freedom and liberty, the most recognizable symbol of the new place. The story of the lady represents change.
