Police Crackdown and Protests in Hong Kong Police The story is majorly about the Hong Kong police and protestors. The writers bring out the irony of the situation whereby as the police throw tear gas among other tactics of dispersing and cracking down on the protestors, instead of backing down the protestors become more and more adamant. As a result, the picture that the authors paints in this article is that the police brutality and the governments’ for that matter is responsible for worsening the strike and escalating it to the current levels. Moreover, it is clear that the authors tend to blame the police for their actions and while favoring the protesters. Hence, the story brings out the conflict, which is one of the components of a newsworthy story, and consequently, this gives the story a controversial element.
While this is a developing story on a recent outbreak of protests in Hong Kong, the writers fail to offer a clear background into the issue concerning its origin. They only give a brief history, which comes at the end of the article. Therefore, a person reading the story and unaware of the happenings in Hong Kong will be confused, not knowing what exactly is happening. Though focusing mostly on police actions, the story is detailed giving accounts of the protests including areas where the protestors are located. Additionally, the authors use descriptive terms that allow the reader to draw a mental image of what is happening in Hong Kong city. Additionally, the story is timely given that there is an ongoing unrest in Hong Kong regarding the issue of democracy, which has occupied news headlines all over the world in the past days. The residents seem fed up with the current system and want a more democratic system both on paper and in practice.

My is Joseph Jakido, known as Old Joe to my friends, and I am eighty years old, one of 763,325 Japanese-Americans currently living in this great country as of the census of 2010. Like some, most in fact, I live on the West Coast, but my grandparents originated from Japan. Other Japanese-Americans have moved inland, but the majority of Americans with one or more Japanese parents live where I do, on the West Coast. Perhaps I should have moved, as then the memories that weigh my heart would be easier. But my life is almost over, and I have no more time to move. ...Journal I have been personally affected by the economic problems besetting Greece and the efforts being made to get the country out of debt. With the country bankrupt and owing more than at least half a trillion in debt to other nations, the thought of personal bankruptcy on my part, which happened through no fault of my own has left a huge personal impact on my life. Bankruptcy is defined by most people as a situation wherein a person cannot repay his debt to another. In this case, the country owes a lot of money. I do not. Yet I am expected to do my part to bail the country out of debt just the same. The austerity measures that have been dictated by the European Union in order to help save the Greek economy has not really done much...

Others argue that man himself is primarily responsible for various creations on earth (North, Carolyn and Robinson). The way an individual interprets his/her existence and the different formation phases actually impacts his outlook...

Immigrants who shift to the United States learn English to publically communicate, but they should also motivate their children to keep up with their private language at homes. This is important because if private language is forgotten, individuals would not be able to communicate with parents and grandparents. So, learning and speaking a foreign language is important, but it is also important not to forget one’s private language. “Girlhood among Ghosts” by Maxine Hong Kingston This is a collection of memoirs written by Kingston herself without... full...
