Deviance is a result of something going wrong. Merton undertook a sociological stage of the study, where the origins of deviance are followed to the nature of the social formation. Deviant conduct is comprehended as arising from responses to conditions of “anomie”. According to Merton deviance is not basically a product of a lack of chances for certain people. As he observed that many societies had little chances for social progress, and there was a huge space between rich and poor, but few deviant behaviors aroused.

The important cause is that socialization procedure focuses on the accomplishment of financial success. A separation between these cultural targets and the chances or legal ways within the social formation for achieving it makes “strains” in which people will acclimatize to in various means. On the basis of this reasoning, he recommended the “ideal type” a set of types of acclimatization.
