Men are from Mars & Women are from Venus" By John Gray By 02 December, 02 December, 2012" Men are from Mars & Women are from Venus " One of the most popular books of the 1990s is titled ‘Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus’ by John Gray. The reason for choosing this book is the vast information present in the book regarding the battle of sexes. In todays world, where men and women are equal in every walk of life it is very important to understand the emotional and professional gender differences.
In his book, John Gray has shown sensitivity to the needs and demands of both sexes, thus helping us better understand the mystery behind men and women. The basic premise of the book focuses on why men and women behave the way they do. ‘Without the awareness that we are supposed to be different, men and women are at odds with each other. ‘ (Gray, 11) The emotional quotient of both is different from one another and they both require different kind of support when emotionally challenged. For a man his abilities matter more than feelings and for a woman the feelings rule her world both in happiness and sadness.
This book is a comprehensive guide to understanding the inner beliefs and values of man and woman. The book starts by introducing the basic difference in the attire and appearance of Martians and Venusians. The sheer appearance and looks of men and women speak boldly about the difference between the nature and thoughts of the sexes. The best feature of the book is the way the writer has compared and contrasted the two genders. Men being the Mr. Fix do not expect solutions from the women, however, women on the other hand being the head of home improvement committee expect solutions from men when they are in a problem or distress.
Men can take care of themselves and revert to a cave in stress but women like to be taken care of under stressful situation by meaningful listening and conversations. The good point about the writings of this book is the clarity of the author’s thought. He has shown the picture of the desires and needs of the sexes in a comprehensive manner. I agree to the fact that understanding each other makes way for a better life together. Understanding the opposite sex shapes the communication between one another and discovering different emotional needs helps avoid arguments.
The book also provides valuable tips for not only understanding but also securing a strong relationship. The carefully presented information is a step by step guide to first knowing the difference between men and women, then clarifying the misconceptions that each had about one another. All this leads to a more meaningful and blissful life. I strongly recommend reading this book to males and females of all ages as this is the encyclopedia about understanding the opposite sex. The book is very systematic and reading it from cover to cover will clear many myths and misconceptions about the two sexes.
Thus, the simple and practical tips of this phenomenal book are highly applicable to the daily life and will provide the bliss of relationship if applied correctly. Works CitedGray, John. Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. New York, NY: HarperCollins, 1992. Print.
