Reasons For A Battle Of The Sexes In The Modern World A universal point of non co-existence has always occurred between men and women since the beginning of times. The reasons for this have been the lack understanding between both the genders amongst all the other various facts. Men have always tried to be the dominating figure and have always tried to impose themselves onto the opposite gender while women on the other side have always tried to be the voice of reason and the one to keep the balance of the universe smooth. Women with their feminine nature and soft existence have tried to get one up on the macho men. ‘A battle of the sexes’ as we commonly call it, has always existed between men and women, thou both of them cannot exist without the other. Having said that, for most human beings regardless of their gender, being loved and wanted is one of the most beautiful feelings as well as one of top priorities on the list of all other concerns. For every human there comes one point in their life, for lot of people it’s more than one, when they want to have a loving relationship with a member of the opposite gender. There are millions on this planet who would be content with a partner but still they would at some point want to be intimately involved with someone they love. Companionship is one of the needs of human and that is the way world progresses, but the modern society has complicated these feelings. So I was recommended this book by a friend ‘Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus’ it’s written by Dr. John Gray. Considering my situation I am not much of a reader and I am one those people who randomly picks up a book just to fall asleep. Now when my friend recommends me this book, first of all the title of the book really appeals to me and it aroused my curiosity about the book further. He told me about the book briefly and said that it is an excellent read if you want to learn about relationships between men and women. In my situation he told me that this book can help improve my relationship with my spouse or my girl friend. These facts appealed to me and I wanted to grab a copy and scribble through it the least. Since this book, as told by my peer, is a great resource for improving relationships and if one applies it in their life, they will find an equilibrium in their relationships. Anyway I finally got the hold of this book and I really enjoyed reading it, the author has done an excellent job, the book was written with a very casual flow to it and in a very easy lingo which makes the reading a whole new enjoyable experience. The moment I started reading this book I did not want to put it down and finish it in one go because it was just so captivating. For me personally this book has given a whole new phenomenon towards male-female relationship. I have gained valuable insights about the species that are called man and woman. In fact, not just only women, after reading this book I have been able to discover feelings and moods that I have not bothered about much in past. The flamboyant character of men that is sketched in this book by the author fits, most of the men accurately, so much so that I can relate a few situation described in the book to myself. Personally, at times while reading this book, I thought the author was talking about me. After reading this book I have realized the instances that the author was talking about between men and women, they actually happen, I have tried to change myself according to the man’s perfect character described in the book and it has given me great results. It used to annoy me that why My ‘Mr Solution Provider’ attitude does irritate my spouse, now that I realize it; I have tried to work on it and change myself. Moreover, I have been able to understand my spouse better now. After reading the book I realize, that women don’t always need a solution to everything that they talk to you about. Instead they just want to TALK, that is it! They long for communication with their partners and if men like me, who are always ready with a solution for what ever they utter, turns them off (Author Unknown 2010). With the help of the book, I have been able to learn that women tend to exaggerate and give metaphorical references whenever they talk and need to explain something explicitly. Now whenever she talks to me I listen carefully and let her do most of the talking rather than taking charge and giving her a solution right there and then. It has made things quite smooth between us now, we communicate more easily and shares everything and anything that is going on in our lives. Now I know how I can make her happy and motivate her when she is down. The huge difference between men and women is can be seen during stressful situations. Men become increasing focused and withdrawn while women become increasingly overwhelmed and emotionally involved. Similar situations happen with me all the time. During stressful times I feel better by solving problems and she feels better by talking about problems, not understanding and accepting these differences creates unnecessary friction in our relationship. We have now learned to overcome these sorts of frictions and keep things simple by understanding each other better. In conclusion, I would say that for me this book has changed a lot of things and improved my personal life. I now understand that the differences between me and her are normal and it is not always the best solution to jump to drastic conclusions. Its very simple when understood in the right way, it can help develop strong and long lasting relationships. I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to reduce tensions in their relationships and strengthen them and create an ever lasting bond with the one the truly love.
