John Ackerly Leadership Journey: John is an individual who is enthusiastic about sports, and this is depicted when he sought to work for the FootballAssociation. This is after leaving his primary school teaching job. Furthermore, John loves travelling a lot, and he has lived in America for a while. He also has a qualification, having joined college, and attended coaching sessions. Currently, John is a project leader, and his main work is to solve sponsorship problems. As a leader, John is motivated by three points, namely, vision, context and will. Vision is a very important characteristic of a leader, and it helps him to see the goals of his team, and the area their ambitions. Context on the other hand, helps in understanding what the vision is, and the most important method of accomplishing the vision under consideration. Will on the other hand, is the urge of the leader to lead. Personal perspective John views himself as a colleague and a friend, to everyone, as opposed to a leader. He is very respectful to everybody, and views his superiors as people having more experience when compared to him. John believes that everybody is a leader, only if they concentrate in doing what they like best. He values experience, and that is the reason why he constantly seeks to improve on his. He knows his weaknesses, and he is constantly seeking to improve on them. His greatest strength is his confidence. Leadership approach John’s leadership approach is to build relationship and trust with his team. He is also involved in spending more time with his colleagues for purposes of finding a common interest and ground. Furthermore, he loves working with all the stakeholders of the organization, for purposes of finding a solution to the problems that affect the organization. Leadership model The model of John’s leadership is based on relational theory. The building of relationships and trust with his colleagues makes him to get the best from them. Peter Higgins: Leadership journey Peter is a leader at NHS. He had no idea that he would become a leader, and his ambition was to be a scientist. This is the reason he did a degree in Chemistry, at the University of Leeds. He has a master’s degree in philosophy, and a diploma in counselling. However, he is an individual who does not like research, and this is the reason he did not finish his PHD degree. Peter also attended the Manchester Business School, and he has a degree from the institute of health service management. His major role has been in the hospitality industry. He is a leader in the hospitality industry, and it is a position given to him, because of his leadership qualities. He is confident, ambitious, and courageous, some of the leadership qualities which made it possible for him to be appointed as the general practitioner for Cumbria and Lancashire. As a leader, the major role of Peter is to ensure that the hospital is running, and it is well maintained. Personal perspective Peter normally demonstrates how confident he is, in taking responsibility and managing people. He believes that there is a need of becoming confident for purposes of expressing the intentions and desires of an individual. Peter believes in team work, and he sees it as an important component of leadership and management. He believes in diversity, and the need of people challenging you. Furthermore, he believes that leaders should have the capability of instilling trust, and they have to have good communication abilities. Leadership approach Peter believed in two things, working hard, and asking of questions in circumstances when an individual does not know anything. Furthermore, Peter believes that leaders should have the capability of turning difficult situations into opportunities and challenges. Furthermore, Peter understands the needs and emotions of people. This was best demonstrated when he negotiated with employees for purposes of averting strikes within the hospital. Peter also believed in participatory leadership, whereby employees of the organization have to participate for purposes of becoming leaders. Furthermore, before taking any action, Peter normally collects information, so that he may act on a point of knowledge. He is a person who value communication amongst his team, and this is the reason he encourages his employees to constantly talk to him. Leadership Model The leadership model of Peter is adaptive leadership. This is because he does not have any specific method of leading, and the decisions he makes, are based on the current situation at work. Anthony Hughes Leadership Journey Anthony is a leader in the police force, having joined it at the age of 21 years. He had no intention of joining the police force, but he wanted the Wednesday off, for purposes of playing rugby. Currently, he is based at the Greater Manchester Police, and is in charge of tactical firearms. His other duty includes maintenance of security for stadiums in the Greater Manchester. Mr. Hughes also played a role in the building of firearms head quarters in Manchester. Anthony has been influenced by a lot of people, and he loves his career, describing it as interesting. Personal Perspective Anthony believes that employees are the most important people within an organization. Furthermore, he believes that there is a need of understanding their interests for purposes of finding out how they will function. Anthony believes that a leader should be a person with emotional intelligence and empathy towards others. Furthermore, a good leader should have knowledge of their area of business, and he should possess good and efficient communication skills. Furthermore, leaders should be resilient, positive, and they should always accept criticism. Anthony believes that leaders should also be responsible for their actions and activities. Leadership approach Anthony believes that a leader should guide his team through difficult times, and he should be resilient. Furthermore, he should be the decision maker, and should not be afraid of making decisions during difficult moments. He further believes that any decisions he makes would be criticized, and hence there is a need of being rational. He summarizes his leadership approach in three words; a leader should be an individual who is knowledgeable, visible, and practical to his staff. Leadership model Anthony is logical in his approach.
