Skills and Their Relation to Employment In the field of business, there is the involvement of very many different kinds of skills for the assurance of success. Skills generally fall into two major types of groups. One of the groups is hard skills while the other is soft skills. The two skill types vary a lot in terms of their applicability. Hard skills are located on the left side of the brain and assist in the identification of logic issues. The soft skills are located on the right side of the brain, credited to having intelligence, and bear the emotional basis. These skills are people skills which are extremely important in the development of a person and generally referred to as essential skills. Hard skills are also those learnt from the education system and more specifically in schools. However, the soft skills are naturally adapted by a person from the environment or just reveal themselves in a natural manner (Muzio 94). Hard skills remain constant despite the changes in the employment circumstances such as the workmates and the change of companies. Soft skills on the other hand vary in a great manner depending on the changes around the person. In relation to employment, soft skills are those that the person involved has to use his creative brain and remain constructive to ensure that he achieves the best in the type of business that he runs. An example of such a job situation is whereby the person is a promoter of a certain product. The salesperson goes to different people in an attempt to gain their concentration on his product. For the full effectiveness of this, the person has to come up with ways through which to attract the people who are completely unaware of the product and assist them in understanding it. These skills are very important in that in case a person gets a new job, he/she is sure to bond fast with the other people around as such a person is social enough and would move fast to make friends and capture their attention with the help of his/her sense of humor, in other words, by making jokes (Rao 57). Hard skills in the employment perspective are those that do not change and hence the person works in a rather reserved manner. This is the case mostly found in many educationalists in their attempts to have a greater understanding of their concepts. These people are generally secluded in that they engage so much in their work that at times they can lose track of time and developments around them which may seem obvious to notice. The removal of these people from their jobs is a great disaster for them. This is because many of them find their workplaces as a place of comfort. Moreover, these people have specialized in a certain field and, hence, the disruption of this may make them feel new and disable comprehension of the surrounding. These skills are, however, important in that they assist in many discoveries that make lives easier and also offer a greater understanding of phenomena that we may not fathom. The reason for this is that many people in this field are scientists (Klaus 47). Employees are very effective in their search for soft skills. This is in areas where they constantly engage in the business involving having high rates of social skills and high level of creativity. These skills are very important as they assist the person involved to gain a greater level of attention. Another situation in life where the application of soft skills comes in handy is when a person may have a job as a car salesperson at a garage. In such a situation, the employee requires high social skills, a sense of humor and fast thinking to try convincing potential buyers on the advantages of purchasing the car. The importance of these two different types of skills is of a similar manner depending on the profession that a person decides to take up. There are those people that may opt to take a more serious career in terms of education and take up the work description of scientists. These, however, are less in percentage and require the application of hard skills. The larger population of people is involved with soft skilled kind of businesses. This is also important because sales people are quite important in the contemporary world. However, in terms of salary the hard skilled workers are the most important as they are the people who make much more money due to their talents that are rare and not achievable by everyone (Downing 146) In my particular job description, I choose to take up the work of being an Information Technology consultant and later a proprietor of my own firm. So that I can access and have the maximum number of clients per day, I am supposed to bear the skills of interactions that are very imperative for my job. One of these skills is that of high sense of humor. This is because customers always enjoy dealing with a person who is very social to assist in their choices. Moreover, a welcoming smile is very attractive to the customers. This is because it assists in drawing them to open up on their choices and acquainting them on the best information systems available. One of the soft skills that I bear is that I am a social person. This factor will surely assist me in ensuring that the people who visit the company have comfortable time as they go about selecting the systems that they want. In the social skills, I am able to talk very fast and at the same time ensure that the customer understands what I am saying. This skill is very effective in that it will assist me in achieving the whole scope of a particular car and summarizing it fully. Moreover, the fastness will help save time for the customer who definitely has other activities to take care of. In my identification of the skills, previous statements from my friends and family assist me. Moreover, despite the fact that they are soft skills, the school system has had something to do with my identification though in an indirect manner. The school system assists me in identification of the skills from the fact that the teachers previously always commended me for having the ability to talk about something small and visit all broad aspects of the issue in a clear and concise manner. My family and friends also assist me in the building of confidence. This is because they always laugh at the small jokes that I crack occasionally and, hence, discovering my skill of humor. This skill is very imperative in my job description. Evidence is from a time one of my friends was injured while engaging in sports and all of us went to the hospital in an effort to cheer him and check his situation. On reaching there, everybody was dull but I sparked up the mood with a few jokes to a point where even the patient smiled despite his pains. One of the skills that I should critically evaluate and develop is that of creativity. Creativity is very important as a consultant and as a dealer and proprietor. This is because as the company owner, I am supposed to come up with trick questions to ask my potential employees who should be very conversant with the field of business. As a consultant, one of the skills that I should apply is that of creativity because it will assist me in increasing the number of clients from my high convincing power that ensues from the skill. One of the ways through which I can develop these skills is by ensuring that I get many newspapers that have crosswords to assist me in identifying and completing them for my mental analysis. Moreover, games, such as chess, make one think to an extended manner and consequently revealing the ability of critical thinking that will be imperative to assist me accomplishing my goals. Both soft and hard skills are very imperative depending on the job line that a person chooses. There are the rare occasions, such as in law, that a person is required to bear both types of skills. This is because in the profession one must socialize fully with people in search of evidence and bear in mind the various legislations in order to try to prove a point in a court of law.
