Being an international I have encountered issues such as cultural barriers to communication that have impacted on the way I interact with other colleagues at school. However, I have learnt that the notion of culture is very important since it shapes the behaviour of different people from various backgrounds. Culture is shaped by elements such as language, dress, religion, the type of food as well as the way people relate with each other in their respective communities. I have observed that the culture of the cost country is quite different from my original country and this impacts on the way I interact with others.

In order to improve the way I communicate with others, I intend to implement an action plan that will see me making as many friends as possible from different cultural background.I have learnt that social networking can significantly help you to improve your communication skills as well as to master the culture of the host country. This is very important since it helps you to come to terms with other people’s values. I will try to network with people from different cultural backgrounds so that I gain a clear understanding of their values and other aspects that shape their behavior.

Thus, in order to overcome cultural barriers to communication, I wish to undertake the following action plan:Try to socialize with many people through creating friendship with themUnderstanding their valuesTry to be accommodative to everyone’s viewsLearn in depth the host country’s cultural valuesUpon careful implementation of this plan, I am strongly convinced that I will be in a better position to overcome some of the cultural barriers to communication that I encounter in different occasions.
