WORKING WITH AND LEADING PEOPLE 1 Job Technical support officers of the job:The Company needs technical support officers for its internet based business. The candidate must be very familiar with digital, analogue, voice and networking protocol. Candidate must be very experienced and must have open mentality for good customer services. Job Function: Candidates need to support different customers like dealers, end users and distributors. Candidates need to guide the customers about the usage of their products. Skills required: Great knowledge about TCP/IP protocols. High technical and analytical skills are required. Problem solving ability is also very essential. Proactive, efficient and innovation driven person is important. Experience required for this job: More than three years of experience in related field is required. Education: CCNA certificate holders are preferable. Type of Work: Full Time. Person specification: Highly dedicated, well qualified open minded, willing to travel people is required. Person should have great knowledge about the subject. 1.2 Legal regulations and ethical consideration has great impact on this recruitment and selection process. When recruiting process is on the way then it is very urgent to focus towards certain legal issues. It will help to reduce some risks like job postings, checking references, interview questions and at the end making job offers. Interviewer must be aware of the Human Rights Codes. Interviewer should not ask any prohibited questions to the candidate. Impact of ethical considerations is very significant for recruiting people for the post. It is important for the recruiter for be ethically clear and should not be biased for any specific gender, race or culture. If the interviewer has problems related with these two factors and ask any controversial, unethical and illegal questions to the candidate then the interview will be a failure, even candidate can consider some legal options against the company and the interviewer. 1.3 The discussion was confined among five people. My role was to take the interview. Rest of the four people were candidates and observer. During the interview several job related specific questions were asked by me to candidates. Apart from job related questions I asked them some general questions related to their back grounds. Legality, morality and ethical aspects were taken care of during the time of interview. I created a very friendly atmosphere for candidates in the interview room. I gave them ample opportunities to share their knowledge. I never disrespected any candidate. Initially I tried to break the ice between me and candidates. Then gradually I went into the depth of the subject. It was a proper both way communication where me and all candidates have shared their knowledge. Observer recorded the whole proceedings. All those developments will be discussed in the next section. 1.4 a) I called all the candidates for their interviews. It was closed door interview. I asked them different questions related with networking protocols. They gave answers according to their knowledge. I noted down their knowledge ability on the basis of their answers. During the interview I also checked candidate’s body language, presentation and communication skills and recorded points according to that. I was measuring the performances of the candidate on the basis of different above written factors. All these factors were different from candidate to candidate. Each and every minute detail was recorded by me in a separate diary against the name of each candidate. b) My contributions in the selection process were very significant. I helped to maintain the calmness and composers of all candidates. My detail recordings during the role play will help to scrutinize each and every candidate very well and the right person can be selected for the specific job. 2.1 Leadership is all about leading some followers. Management is much more focused towards managing people in organizations. Leadership has the concept of followers but management has the concept of subordinates. For leadership vision is very much important but for management achieving different goals is important. Leadership is generally transformational, but management in general transactional. Leadership is very much focus towards transforming lives of followers. It believes in decisive changes in the lives of followers but on the other hand mangers are much more concerned with assigned tasks. They are not that much interested with subordinate’s lives. Leadership brings innovation in to the system but managers, administer and govern those systems. Leadership develops different new things but management maintains those things. Leadership inspires people but management believes on controlling people. Leadership has long range view but management has short range view. Leadership does the right thing but management does thing in right ways. Leadership creates but management imitate those creations. Leadership is a very vast concept but management is less vast concept than leadership. Leadership is all about leading from the front in case of management performance is the ultimate thing. Late Steve Jobs the founder of Apple computers is the example of the leadership who developed the idea of Apple computers. Indra Nooyi current CEO of PepsiCo is a good example of management personality. 2.2 Leadership needed lots of skills and attributes. All those skills and attributes are going to be discussed in this section of the study. Leadership is all about leading from the front. It is a very important leadership skill. Leaders have to adaptive in nature. Passion for leading a group of people is a very important attribute for leadership. Passion always urges a leader to lead from the front. Responsibility is also a very significant attribute for leadership. Communication ability is one of the most important characteristics of leadership. Leaders have to communicate their vision with effective communication abilities. Team building is a very essential ability or attribute for leadership. Building a successful team is a very important characteristic for leadership. Commitment towards staff is a very much important leadership characteristics. Decision making ability is also a very suitable and essential attribute of leadership. Self motivation, learning abilities, superior energy is also very important attributes of leadership. Moral ethics, values and transparency is also very essential characteristic or attributes for leaders. Innovation and creativity are also very important leadership attributes. Dedication towards jobs is also a very important criterion for leadership. Sensitivity towards followers is an essential leadership attribute. Judging different situations is also a very important skill for leadership. Tolerance and patient is one of the most important leadership attributes. Situational analysis is considered as an important leadership skill. Warren Buffett is a good example of leadership who can predict the future very well. He brought significant amount of shares of e-Bay in 1992. At that point of time the concept of e-commerce was very less. 2.3 Leadership styles changes according to different situations. No fixed leadership style holds good for every situation. It is very important to change leadership style with different situations. Here in this section of the essay different leadership style for different situations will be discussed. When the situation is good and under control then leadership style should be more democratic. In this situation leaders should pay attention to each and every individual advice. Under this situation a leader has ample scope of listening to what other people are saying. This is the perfect time for a leader to be a visionary. During this suitable situation a leader can spend time and energy for planning or foreseeing future. Leaders can be act as a coach in this situation. When the situation is not very good or favourable and crisis is there then leaders should be more transactional. Scope of freedom and creativity is very less. Leaders have to be very much task oriented. Under this situation leaders can be performed as delegates. They should facilitate different adverse changes in the system. Leaders should be very much supportive in crisis situations. Ratan Tata is a good example of situational leadership. He shifted the total Nano car project from West Bengal to Gujarat. In West Bengal the project was facing serious agitations from local public. The situation was not at all favourable for the project. So, he took the bold decision of changing place for the project. 2.4 Staff motivations are very much important for achieving any objective. There are different ways for motivating staffs. All those motivating factors will be discussed in this section of the study (Western 123). Reorganization is a very important motivating factor for staffs. When staffs gets proper recognition for what he or she has done it certainly motivates them in a very positive way. That motivation is very much important to achieve any goal. Financial rewards like bonuses and incentives are also very much important motivating factors for staffs. All these financial rewards motivate staffs for performing well. It helps organizations to reach towards their objective. Proper training and scope of career growth is also a significant motivating factor for staffs. All these factors inspire and motivate them to perform very well. In this way common goals can be achieved. Proper training increases staff’s ability to grow for future excellence. Hind ware is a very popular Indian sanitary ware company they provide incentives for their sales forces for achieving targets. It motivates total sale force of the organization to perform very well.
