The concept used in parallel imaging emphasizes on reducing phase encoding steps numbers (Heidemann et al., 2003). It does not compromise spatial resolution neither does it compromise the MR acquisition field of view. Some of the important characteristics that have made parallel imaging essential include faster acquisition, increased spatial resolution, reduced motion artefacts, reduced blurring, shorter echo time and reduced geometric distortion (Jack, 2013, p.29).
