Is It Important To Be Civilized Is It Important To Be Civilized Civilization is usually a contentious term which has been utilized in a number of associated ways. Principally, the term has been utilized to refer to the instrumental and material side of human cultures which are complicated in terms of division of labor, science, and technology. These forms of civilizations are largely urbanized and hierarchical. In a traditional context, individuals were referred to as civilized to differentiate them from primitive individuals, savages, and barbarians while in the present day, civilized individuals have been compared with tribal societies or primitive individuals.
The use of civilization and connected notions are contentious because they may mean inferiority and superiority, and may also mean directionality to social transformations that may or may not be desirable or realistic. A civilized individual is one who has respect for other people, have an open mind, and treat others as he would expect of others (Fernandez-Armesto, 2000). This paper will discuss if it is essential for an individual to be civilized. The paper will agree with Mark Rothko’s statement in relation to civilization.
For a person to be successful in any field, he or she should be civilized. The individual should be well conversant with subjects from a number of fields. Nevertheless, civilization does not only mean to be educated. This is because a large number of individuals are not open minded or are not mindful of others. On the other hand, if a person is educated in a number of disciplines, for example, Sociology, Anthropology, Literature, Theology, Philosophy, Mythology, and Archeology, he or she would have a significant prospect on what it entails to be civilized.
These subjects concentrate on the understanding that dissimilar cultures have their sole ways of how a person is civilized. Also, every nation and subcultures within nations contain specified techniques of teaching and defining what it entails to be civilized. For instance, the novel technologies introduced in 1994 contained tremendous promise for interdisciplinary subjects and specifically for American studies. In their complexity or scale and in their multimedia ability, they provided the ways by which authentic multidisciplinary activities could be pursued.
They provided strategies for developing the more advanced models of cultural process that were emerging. They proposed a way beyond the identity politics and post-structural theory that had come to lead interdisciplinary studies (Schugurensky, 2002). They appeared to give a stage through which authentically advanced cross-disciplinary work could be realized in their capacity to incorporate dissimilar and various forms of cultural texts to both the print, which is the conventional medium and subject, and the objects, images, and events about which America citizens frequently try to speak.
It is essential that a person becomes civilized so as to bring about change. Being civilized is the human component which causes change from the sharing of information from a number of cultures. Being civilized does not mean having a robust economy, the best medical health institutions, or advanced technology. These are things which people posses as they exist in a developed society. Nevertheless, there are a number of plays which were created by Bohemian illustrating the resistance against accepted injustices.
It contained tales of oppression and petty injustices taking place in Russia. Hence, by becoming civilized, the people of Russia were able to resist the accepted injustices and bring about positive change in the country. Also, a teacher in a settlement is regularly attempting to find out strategies of instruction which will avail knowledge to his pupils in a quick manner. This assists newly arrived migrants to learn a language which will be of significance to their stay. Even a little knowledge of English may offer a chance for employment versus being unemployed.
Therefore, educational activities of settlement illustrate different demonstrations of the effort to socialize democracy which is the reality of the settlement itself (Schugurensky, 2002). Therefore, it is significant that people become civilized so that they can understand the different classes and cultures, respect people from different areas, and understand that we are identical human beings. Conclusion Humans are inventive and creative when the appropriate situations are present. The information that human beings get from different civilizations may only make every human being more of a well rounded individual.
Human beings can only obtain knowledge through the study of different cultures and their ways of perceiving things. Therefore, being civilized means having an open mind to possibilities of new learning, and different manners of perceiving the universe, treating other people as you would expect to be handled, and respecting people from other cultures and their cultures (Yurdusev, 2003).
