[Your full September 17, Essay For me, the world is a place full of excitement and responsibilities at the same time. Some years back, it was all fun when I was younger. At that time, the world seemed to be a place where everybody is supposed to have enjoyment but now, I feel that responsibilities are so big that little time is left to enjoy. In this mini-paper, I will tell the reader what has shaped my view of the world; what events have contributed to my personality; and, what I want to do with my life.

So, here we go. Reader, I am the eldest daughter of my parents. This might be the reason that I feel many responsibilities on my shoulders. We lived in Saudi Arabia before moving to USA. My homeland was the most comfortable place to me where I was born, studied, and played. I had a few friends, boys and girls, but I felt that I was closest to my mom who was always there whenever I needed her for a good piece of advice. She had always advised me to be honest and pure throughout my life. Her pieces of advice have helped me a lot in many points in life.

I still remember that I had fought with her a lot when she told me that father had decided to move to USA. “Baby, I want you to be mentally prepared because we are moving to USA”, was what she said to me, and I still remember how upset I was. However, I admitted because my teacher had also advised my parents to make me study in USA considering my intellect and capabilities. Also, my father wanted to have a better earning, so we moved to USA. After going through all necessary procedures, the day came when I was going to experience my first day in USA.

I remember the moment my flight was going to land in Reagan Washington National Airport. I could see from above the sky the power capital of the world, the White House. I felt overwhelmed. I have no words to describe my experience flying by the Tidal Basin on that cold midwinter day. I could see high bridges and beautifully constructed highways. That was indeed a floating city. I had expected that I was going to feel strange in a totally new land. What I experienced was totally opposite. I felt as if I was born to study and live here.

All my fears had vanished and I felt loving the moment my father decided to come to the United States. But that was only a start and we had to go through much more than that. We spent some initial days at a friend of my father’s but we knew that we could not be a burden on any one in this country and we would have to look out for our personal lodging. After some struggle, my father managed to take a small apartment on rent where we shifted, a family of five. I already knew that life was going to demand much seriousness from us kids too.

I decided to be a moral support for my parents and to study hard enough to make my parents proud of me. My father struggled much for a good job which he finally found after 3 months of endless effort. He was not satisfied with the job and after one year, my parents and younger siblings moved back to my homeland but I decided to stay here in USA for higher education. That was the hardest time that I ever saw in my life when, at times, I became hopeless too. But, somewhere there was always a spark of hope that kept me struggling for better living alone in a strange land away from my family.

I, as an eldest daughter, have always shared my parents’ problems which has made me the apple of their eye. I am my mom’s best friend and keep on taking advice from her whenever I feel lonely. When I was with her, I helped her in all house chores, starting from doing dishes to going out for groceries to helping my younger siblings in their homework. I always waited for my father to get back home after long days’ work, and make dinner for him and serve him bed time coffee every night. I miss them but feel their prayers around me all the time.

To end it here, I wish that I become a successful person in my life and bring my parents’ wish come true. The hardships that we have seen in life as a family have shaped my personality and my view of the world. I am happy that I have transformed into a very responsible, loving and caring young lady.
