My Thoughts and Emotions Related Unplug Myself from Electronic Media for 24 Hours The modern life is interconnected with electronic media because almost all the events in our day to day life are related to the effective functioning of electronic media. When one is unplugged from electronic media, there exists high scope for the feeling of frustration and alienation from the mainstream society. The challenge to disconnect myself, or unplug myself from electronic media for 24 hours, was horrible. As far as I am concerned, important events in my life depends upon the effectiveness of electronic media. On the other side, my attempt to disconnect myself from electronic media helped me to realize the importance of the same in the modern life. When we are connected to electronic media without any restriction, we never think about the scope of a world without electronic media. But when we are disconnected, we realize the influence of electronic media in our lives. Challenges and actions As pointed out, the challenge to unplug myself from electronic media for 24 hours was a rare experience. First of all, all the routine works in my life is interconnected with electronic media. For instance, digital alarm clock helps me to wake up in the early morning. The day before I undertook the challenge, I decided to switch off my digital alarm clock. One can see that one cannot change one’s daily routine. Phillip Barron stated that, “But the iPod generation needs to know there is a life without electronic media” (9). But my decision was noble because I need to experience a life without electronic media. Somehow, I managed to solve the problem because my ‘biological clock’ was that much conditioned by my decision. The day before I undertook the challenge, I pointed out my parents and others in family that I decided to unplug from electronic media for the next 24 hours. They told me that they will help me to accomplish my task. After waking up, I completed my routine works. This was another challenge because my routine works from brushing my teeth to dressing were interconnected with my FM Radio. For instance, I used to connect all my works with certain programs on the Radio. This helped me to save time. But on the day in which I did unplug myself from electronic media, FM Radio was not there to help me. So, I decided to consider this as a challenge and continued my effort. Somehow, I managed to complete all the routine work and went to the kitchen to have break-fast. Then I remembered that I can make use of stove and microwave to prepare food. So, I used the stove to prepare tea and microwave to prepare break-fast. After having breakfast, I headed towards my private room, where my computer and videogames are kept. Oh no! I cannot switch on my computer and play video games! Then I went back to the kitchen and discussed the problem with my mum. She pointed out that I can make use of our private library as a safe haven or I can spend my time with my dog. So, I decided to make use of our private library. Till noon, I spent my time at our private library. There, I went through a number of books and periodicals which were published before years. This helped me to save myself from frustration. After having dinner, I decided spend my time with my dog. This was a rare experience for my dog because I never used to be this much close with my dog. At home, once more I began to feel frustration because there is no scope to make use of any sort of electronic media. My parents assured me that they will help me to keep myself from frustration. For instance, all the members in my family decided to switch off electricity and we had candle light supper! After having supper, we discussed the future of human civilization, which is interconnected with the growth and development of electronic media. At 11 A.M., I decided to go to bed. In my room, I contemplated on the influence of electronic media in human life. But I was happy because I proved myself that I can live without electronic media for 24 hours. The time period between 11A.M. and 4 P.M. is blank because there was no electronic media to distract me from sleeping! Description: thoughts and emotions How to describe my thoughts and emotions related to my decision to unplug myself from electronic media for 24 hours? As you can see, it is extreme difficult to an individual in this modern world to be away from the midstream society. To be specific, electronic media is the most important element that helps one to connect with the mainstream society. First of all, decision making was an easy task for me because I was not aware of the aftereffect of the same! I thought I can handle the situation with ease. But when I began to deal with the situation, the first problem to deal with was to wake up at the right time. Earlier, my digital alarm clock helped me to keep myself aware of the importance of time. When I decided to discard my digital alarm clock, my awareness on time came to an end. But my intuition helped me to keep myself aware of my responsibility. After having my break-fast, I became aware of the fact that I have nothing in my home to entertain myself. I cannot use my computer, my music system, my cell phone and video games. Then, I began to ponder upon the life of my parents during their teen age. Did they have all these electronic equipments? No. But they never complained that their teen age life was not colorful. How did they manage to deal with this situation? The best possible answer is that they did not have this much exposure to electronic media. But I am so dependent upon electronic media. This thought helped me to search for other possibilities in my life. As pointed out earlier, I decided to go to our private library. This decision helped me to save myself from further problems related to boredom. The books and periodicals in my library helped me to realize the importance of reading and acquisition of knowledge. Then my decision to spend my leisure time with my dog helped me save myself from frustration. Gradually, I began to realize the importance of nature in human life. Besides, my decision to unplug myself from electronic media for 24 hours helped me be in touch with the other members in my family. On the other side, I came to realize the fact that the essence of human life is interconnected with our relationship with nature. Summing, our life in the modern age cannot be detached from electronic media because our growth and development is interconnected with the same. If one tries to detach oneself from electronic media, one needs to be ready to deal with the alienation related to the same. My decision to unplug myself from electronic media for 24 hours changed my outlook of life. Now, I realize the fact that human beings are totally dependent upon electronic media. Still, in remote corners of our world, people are leading peaceful life without depending upon electronic media. But one can live without depending upon electronic media and I proved the same, at least for 24 hours! So, unplugging from any sort of electronic media is not the end of human life, but the door to unexplored possibilities of life. Works Cited Barron, Phillip. The Outspokin' Cyclist.
