Sur 14 January The Value and Importance of Training Introduction: Training as part of the management programs within an organization proves to be essential since although the program might incur a small period of time, its effects are usually lasted for a longer period of time. Training and developing the organizational members involve greater benefits for an organization since they help the members to remain updated with the changes and advancements that the company might have acknowledged in the recent times. Moreover, they have the opportunity to solve several individual as well as collective difficulties and problems in the process (Mathis & Jackson, 252). Thus, it can be realized that the value and importance of training in an organization can be understood only if an organization undertakes a planned and efficient training program and sees through the results. The current study focuses on the value and importance of training, the current trends in the training and considering the Wal-Mart stores, the study shall try to associate the importance of training programs in the company. About the Wal-Mart Company: The Wal-Mart group of stores was started in the year 1962, when it initiated its discount stores in Rogers. Wal-Mart stores were incorporated in 1969 and in the present times it is one of the biggest retail stores in the world. It sells its products across 20 different countries and has gained around 2.1 million associates for its business throughout the world. The company intends to satisfy the customers by providing with retail products at costs that customers can easily find reasonable. The company has its own set of values and principles and has been following them over the years for the success of the company. It gives high value to the service that can be provided to its customers and has a large customer base (About us). The plans of the company give light to the company’s focus on customer’s satisfaction which requires the effective performance on the part of the organizational employees. The different products of the Wal-Mart group of stores are: apparels, health and beauty products, electronics, toys, jewelry, items for lawns and gardens, automotive products, furnishing products for home, hardware, sports goods, supplies for pets as well as household products. Wal-Mart also has its super-centers with products like packaged foods, fresh products and others. The company sells its products through its neighbor markets, express stores, and the super-centers. The company also makes use of the internet facilities and serves its customers through the online ordering and feedback measures. The online feedback of the customers are considered significant by the company for its future modifications and improvement (Walmart). Thus, the study on the company clearly indicates that the company needs to continuously update and keep its employees trained such that they can serve efficiently in all the respects and departments of the organization gaining the satisfaction from the customers. Current Trends in Training: The training and development of employees within organizations are based on increasing the skills and expertise of the employees for the betterment of the organization. It is thus, an important role of the human resources management team of any corporation to look for the ways to include and improve the training programs for the employees to be properly trained. The trends that improve the capability of the human resources team in any organization and hence, the training of employees include the “increased globalization of the economy”, “technological changes, challenges, and opportunities”, “the need to be flexible in response to changing business environments”, “increase in litigation related to HRM”, and “changing characteristics of the workforce” (Bernandin, 9). The above trends reflect factors that are needed to be taken into consideration for understanding the needs of training programs within organizations. The changing economy and the increasing globalization enhance the level of competition that implies the organizational employees to be highly efficient in their fields of work within their respective organizations. Also, the advancements and the changing workforce reflect the importance of the updated and trained environment under which the organizational employees can be expected to work and achieve the organizational goals. Considering the Wal-Mart company and its status of successful performance in the industry, it can be said that the trend of changing characteristics of workforce and the rising globalization need to be kept in focus by the company. The management team of the company needs to plan and incorporate training measures depending on these trends, which would in turn help the company to sustain in the competitive world of business and not lose its position. If the company does not focus on the training of the organizational employees, chances are that in the near future, the company might lose its current worth or value if the members are unable to cope up with the changing advancements in the industry. Best Strategy for the Wal-Mart Company: The company has been studied to focus intensely on serving efficiently and satisfying the customers. Thus, the primary strategy of the company has been observed to reach out the masses of people so that they can gain competitive advantage over their competitors. In order to keep up with this status of their business, it can be clearly emphasized that the employees of the company have to be trained and developed on a regular basis, in order to remain updated to the policies and strategies of the company. In this context, the best way of training measure that can support the strategy of the company is to ensure training programs would involve all the members of the company once in every six months. While this can be executed, the training program should involve everyone in the organization and get connected through all the branches of the company across the world. This would enable to share their feelings regarding the company’s status and the performances of the individual employees as well as determine any required changes in the system. It could take place for a seven days extensive period of time where the days and the hours could be scheduled for particular discussions of topics and thus, the training of the members. Involvement of all levels of authorities and members in the process would enhance the process by clearing doubts and leading a healthy way of approaching the strategies of the company. Thus, a training program might assist the Wal-Mart company to enhance more to the current functioning and success of the company and the position that it possesses in the industry. Learning, Motivation, and Performance Improvement Strategy for Wal-Mart: It has been observed that learning and motivation are certain measures that have always led to better performances on the part of the employees within any organization. These techniques lead to improvement on the engagement of the employees in the activities of the organizations. However, the level of motivation and the reasons for motivation generally vary from individual to individual. Different situations and positive attributes also lead to the enhanced performance improvement in the organizational employees (Burke & Cooper, 81). Learning new skills and expertise always prove to be beneficial for the organizational employees, since these make the employees capable of encountering the competitive world of business and activities. If the employees can be motivated, then they can be expected to perform better in all respects. Thus, organizations find these techniques significant in their human resources management that ultimately led to performance improvement of the organizational members. Considering Wal-Mart group of stores, the employees can have similar effects if they are experienced with the learning and motivation techniques supported by the human resources team of the company. The strategy of providing the organizational employees with different lessons on advanced business issues and activities and motivating them through the different ways like increments in compensation, or factors like improved work environment, health and other benefits, can be expected to have significant positive impacts on the effectiveness of the members. Performance improvement can then be expected from these members as well. Wal-Mart can thus be suggested to incorporate these measures in their management decisions and focus on the relevant training programs for the betterment of the company’s performances and thus, the improved success and position in the industry for a longer period of time. Conclusion: The study was focused on the value and importance of training in organizations considering the Wal-Mart Company as an example. From the study it can be concluded that the training and development of organizational employees prove to be significantly important for the success of any organization. This is primarily because the employees are the individuals who actually work out the different strategies and plans of an organization. Thus, with the changes, advancements and the increasing globalization and competition in the business world, it can be understood that companies need to focus on their employees to be efficiently trained to keep up with the current trends in the industry. Considering Wal-Mart similarly, there is the need for the training programs focusing on the company’s demands on learning, motivation and performance improvement of the employees. The understanding of the need and value of the training program would help the company to sustain its leading position in the retail industry for longer periods of time.
